If House Republicans take action, Jack Smith could be the first prosecutor\u2063 to bring a case while under criminal contempt himself. [Attorney General] Merrick Garland could be subject to impeachment\u200d if\u200d he refuses to enforce that criminal contempt,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeaker [Kevin] \u2063McCarthy could set\u2062 up\u200d a Select Committee tomorrow, bring \u200dPresident\u200c Trump \u200din \u2064for testimony, and grant him immunity,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/matt-gaetz-humiliates-fbi-director-testimony-house-judiciary-committee-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaetz<\/a> concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The congressman fleshed out his\u2064 plan during \u200dan\u200c appearance on \u201cThe \u2064Charlie Kirk\u200d Show.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I\u2019m worried\u200d that too many of my Republican colleagues in Congress are infected with \u200bthe same loser mentality that infected Congress in the early days of the Mueller investigation.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t complicated. You also agree to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/about\/privacy-policy\/\">Privacy Policy<\/a> \u200dand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/about\/terms-service\/\">Terms of Use<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he doesn\u2019t do that, we should issue\u200c a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/matt-gaetz-threatens-jack-smith-subpoena-force-house-judiciary-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">subpoena<\/a>.\u2064 If he ignores the subpoena, we should hold him in criminal contempt\u200b of Congress. \u200c\u2026 And if Merrick Garland won\u2019t enforce\u2064 that criminal contempt, then he subjects himself to an impeachment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimultaneous to that, you can actually\u2064 bring \u200dTrump in to give testimony to the\u200c Congress and in doing so immunize him,\u201d Gaetz said.\u2062 \u201cYou\u200b have to think about it almost like whistleblower protections \u2014 Trump, the \u200cultimate whistleblower, potentially the beneficiary of congressional immunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz\u200c grounded \u200dhis \u2063proposal \u2062in federal \u2063law, \u2062saying that\u200d the House has the power to do what he is suggesting under 18 U.S. Codes\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/6002\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6002<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/18\/6005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6005<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican said his plan is \u201cnever something you typically think of as a first step, but in \u2062this case, I think we misunderstand the fight\u200b that we are in. Right now you have the\u200d Department of Justice functioning as\u200c the enforcement wing \u2062of the Democratic Party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that if \u200bCongress\u200c just accepts this premise that \u2064it\u2019s an ongoing matter and \u2062thus we shouldn\u2019t be involved, then you underscore the legitimacy of that very matter,\u201d Gaetz warned.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz also acknowledged that he is\u200b in \u201cthe minority of the \u200cmajority\u201d on this matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost Republicans \u2064in Congress just think \u200bwe ought to throw our hands in the air and allow the chips\u2064 to fall where they may. \u200cI think that is a tremendous disservice\u200d to the \u2064Constitution when we are facing \u200can\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/if-facebook-twitter-and-google-hide-information-for-the-worlds-rulers-elections-are-a-scam\/\" title=\"If Facebook, Twitter, And Google Hide Information For The World\u2019s Rulers, Elections Are A Scam\">election interference operation<\/a>, not \u200ba\u200d legitimate prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For his part, \u2063Kirk was intrigued by the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongressman [Matt Gaetz] has a BOLD plan he believes could\u200d immunize Donald Trump from \u2064Jack \u2062Smith\u2019s politically weaponized crusade: Bring Trump in \u200bto testify before the House as a whistleblower, thereby triggering certain preexisting immunity\u200d protections,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/charliekirk11\/status\/1689042922615054336\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> \u200bon\u2062 X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill it \u2062work? No idea,\u201d \u200cKirk said. \u2063\u201cBut we must reject the premise that the DOJ\u2019s \u2062political persecution of Donald\u200b Trump is somehow \u2064legitimate. All options should be on\u200c the\u2062 table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is hard to say \u2063just how effective Gaetz\u2019s plan would be. \u2063But he is right \u200cthat Congress \u2063is making no\u200d effort to keep these biased, corrupt prosecutors in line.<\/p>\n<p>The left \u200dis playing hardball and\u200b using every lever of \u200cgovernment \u200d\u2014 legitimate or not \u2014 to \u2063destroy Donald Trump,\u200b who clearly has \u2063the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-scores-major-win-following-third-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support<\/a> of a large\u200d majority of Republican voters.
