They also adhere to Catholic teachings on marriage and \u2062sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their genuine \u200blove and support for all children, a Massachusetts adoption official wrote that their faith and beliefs\u2064 were not considered supportive. However, the official did acknowledge that the Burkes are &#8220;lovely people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit filed \u2062by the Becket \u2063Fund for Religious \u2062Liberty argues that Massachusetts&#8217; interpretation of \u200cits regulations creates an &#8220;absolute bar&#8221; for Catholics who follow the tenets of \u200dtheir faith. This has resulted in a\u200b shortage of foster families in the state,\u200b leaving some children without\u2062 proper homes and care.<\/p>\n<p>Lori Windham, Vice President and Senior Counsel at Becket, expressed her disappointment, saying, &#8220;It&#8217;s really sad to see that families\u200c who would love and care \u200dfor children are not able to bring those children into their home because of their \u200breligious beliefs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>During the Burkes&#8217; interview process, they were extensively questioned about their views on\u2064 LGBTQIA+ children\u200b and gender interventions. Kitty, in particular, expressed her concern about subjecting a child to a lifetime of medical appointments and potential pain.
