He suffered what doctors diagnosed \u2064as a \u201cmild stroke\u201d in 2010, and an \u201cepisode of disorientation and weakness\u201d in 2013 led\u200b to an operation \u2064to remove \u200d\u201ca small lesion from his brain.\u201d After two years of remission,\u2064 he succumbed to \u200bcancer at \u2063Walter Reed National Military\u200c Medical Center in Maryland surrounded by family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis family surrounding\u2063 him, everyone \u2064holding onto him, each of us desperately, desperately holding him, each of us whispering \u2018I love you, I love you, I love you.\u2019 I held his hand, and he took his last breath,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=W_kG38mNcgY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recalled<\/a> the other Biden son, Hunter.\u2062 <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c9702a92d39bccb16eb3ad1ad36f0473 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c9702a92d39bccb16eb3ad1ad36f0473\"><\/div>\n<p>Such a touching moment is a blessing Gold Star families never get. Instead of saying gentle goodbyes at their loved one\u2019s side, they endure the anguish of \u200cimagining their child, spouse, or parent\u2019s last moments in a foreign corner of the world, unable to exchange final\u200c words and gestures of comfort. Sometimes they are denied even\u200c a last look \u2063at their loved one\u2019s face \u2063\u2014 or they see in it\u2064 the scars \u200dof a\u200b violent \u2062and excruciating death.\u2063 The families of the brave\u2062 men and women who die fighting for our \u200dcountry bear a kind of grief and honor that\u200d we, the beneficiaries of their sacrifices, should not \u200bdare usurp.<\/p>\n<p>Of all people, the president who at least nominally commands\u200b our troops should recognize\u2062 that service members and their families, not he, are the\u2064 heroes of their sacrifices. Yet President Biden has a\u2062 disgusting habit of making moments when he \u200cshould be offering comfort and gratitude to those \u2063selfless \u2063Americans about himself instead.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Schmitz, whose 20-year-old son Jared was also killed in the Kabul attack two Augusts ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/biden-meeting-fallen-americans-families\/2021\/08\/30\/07ecff7c-09ac-11ec-a6dd-296ba7fb2dce_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> The Washington Post in 2021 that when he met \u2064Biden afterward he was frustrated that Biden focused\u2062 on Beau rather than on taking responsibility for his role in the Afghanistan withdrawal chaos that surrounded Jared\u2019s death.\u2062 \u201cWhen\u200b he just kept talking about his son \u2064so much it \u2063was just \u2014 my interest was lost in that. I was more focused on my own son than\u200d what happened with him and his son,\u201d he said. \u201cIt \u2062just didn\u2019t seem that appropriate\u200d to spend \u200cthat much time on his own son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the\u200c widow of 20-year-old Marine Lance Cpl. \u2064Rylee McCollum was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/biden-meeting-fallen-americans-families\/2021\/08\/30\/07ecff7c-09ac-11ec-a6dd-296ba7fb2dce_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disappointed<\/a>\u201d by her visit from the president, who \u201ckept checking his watch and bringing up Beau.\u201d McCollum\u2019s sister\u2063 Cheyenne <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/marine-rylee-mccollum-family-biden-scripted-kabul\">told<\/a> Fox News that Biden talked about Beau for his entire three-minute \u200cconversation with them, and said she \u201cwas able to stand about 15 seconds of his fake, scripted apology and I\u200d had to walk away.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0b15bb7a0387ea3cb2ac890698a1660c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0b15bb7a0387ea3cb2ac890698a1660c\"><\/div>\n<p>In \u2064a Facebook post, \u2063the mother of Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui \u2014 another who was killed in the Kabul attack, and also only 20 years old \u2014 addressed her frustrations to \u200cthe president after meeting with him. \u201cYou tried to interrupt me and \u2062give me your own sob story and I had to tell you, \u2018This \u2063isn\u2019t about you so don\u2019t\u2063 make it about you!\u2019\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mother-of-marine-killed-in-kabul-says-biden-rolled-his-fing-eyes-when-she-remembered-son-during-meeting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The impression Biden \u2063made on the families of \u200dthose killed in the bombing was \u200dso sour that even The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/biden-meeting-fallen-americans-families\/2021\/08\/30\/07ecff7c-09ac-11ec-a6dd-296ba7fb2dce_story.html\">admitted<\/a> his \u2064talk about Beau \u2063\u201cat times seemed \u200bto fall flat on this\u200c occasion.\u201d Since then, he\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/joe-biden-repeats-false-claim-that-beau-biden-died-in-iraq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doubled down<\/a> on the lie.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, \u200bBiden told U.S. Marines\u2063 in Japan, \u201cMy son was a major in \u2064the U.S. Army. We lost him in Iraq.\u201d In 2022, he told a Florida audience, \u201cI\u2019m thinking about Iraq because that\u2019s where my son died,\u201d a\u2063 few weeks after claiming in Colorado that Beau \u201clost his life in Iraq.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s nothing wrong with Joe Biden expressing grief about his son\u2019s tragically young death or mentioning \u2062his son\u2019s yearlong deployment. But using the grief of families whose loved ones have died on foreign \u2063battlefields to gain cheap political points \u2014 or simply indulge in cruel self-centeredness \u2014 is low, even for \u2063the president who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/02\/joe-biden-wasnt-involved-in-hunters-business-and-its-normal-that-he-was\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appears<\/a> to have traded political favors at home for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-loving-father-excuse-for-joe-bidens-role-in-pay-for-play-biz-is-gross\/\" title=\"Joe Biden's use of the 'Loving Father' excuse to justify his involvement in pay-for-play business is repugnant.\">foreign bribe money<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, the corporate media creep out of the woodwork to gently reprimand Biden\u2019s callous treatment of Gold Star families only when his most egregious comments are impossible \u200cto ignore.<\/p>\n<p>For example: When multiple \u2063families of the service members killed in Kabul in\u200b August 2021 publicly blasted Biden for his uncaring obsession with name-dropping Beau in his conversations with them, The New York Times\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/09\/04\/us\/politics\/biden-beau-afghanistan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coverage<\/a> \u200c of their criticism included lines \u200blike these:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInvoking Beau\u2019s memory amid the violent collapse of Afghanistan \u2026 provided a rare moment for critics\u200c to pounce on a penchant for eulogizing his son.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026the moment crystallized \u2062just how much Mr.\u2064 Biden \u2064is still\u2062 haunted by the memory\u2064 of a son he had always described to confidants as \u2018me, but without all the downsides,\u2019 and how his anguish over \u2063that loss can clash with the political realities of\u200d being president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe general thinking among Mr. Biden\u2019s \u2064supporters is\u200d that he is a welcome change from President Donald J. Trump, who \u200bwas almost \u200dalways publicly unable to express empathy. They believe Mr. Biden is the right president for this moment in history\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even the marginally less fawning\u200b coverage from The Washington Post mildly summed up Biden\u2019s lack\u200b of basic decency as \u200ca \u201ctough meeting with grieving relatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If \u2064you look very closely, you might be able to discern a difference between the press coverage\u2062 of Biden\u2019s repeated attempts to make military families\u2019 \u2062grief all about himself, and the media freakout\u2063 that followed an anonymously sourced Atlantic story accusing Trump of referring to slain\u2063 American troops as \u201csuckers\u201d and \u201closers\u201d \u2014 a story which <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/08\/i-interviewed-trump-for-5-hours-heres-what-he-told-me-about-stupid-f-er-mcconnell-mccarthys-bromance-with-luntz-and-the-fake-news-that-bothered-him-the-most\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was<\/a> \u201crefuted by dozens of\u200d on-the-record sources and contemporaneous government evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Biden will continue to hijack the sacrifices of Gold Star families \u200dso he can talk about himself.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3fee3a609ae0c1da6eb834292eec5a23 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3fee3a609ae0c1da6eb834292eec5a23\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two years after a Kabul suicide bombing killed 13 American service members during Biden&#8217;s flawed Afghanistan withdrawal, the mother of Marine Lance Cpl.
