They revealed their decision\u200c to \u2064pull <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/626820-college-board-claims-ap-psychology-course-effectively-banned-in-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advanced Placement Psychology class from Florida schools<\/a>. The reason? Existing conflicts with Florida&#8217;s Parental Rights in \u200cEducation Act, also\u2064 known as the &#8220;Don&#8217;t Say Gay&#8221; law. <\/p>\n<p>According \u2064to <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.collegeboard.org\/statement-ap-psychology-and-florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a statement from the College \u2063Board<\/a>, they\u2062 blame Florida for this decision: &#8220;Florida Department of Education has effectively banned AP Psychology in the state by instructing Florida superintendents that teaching foundational content\u2064 on sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal\u2062 under state law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2077428281\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28d66b2ec345b716f6e74bbbeaf21897 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-28d66b2ec345b716f6e74bbbeaf21897\"><\/div>\n<p>However, the Florida Department of\u200d Education has a different perspective. According \u2064to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfla.com\/news\/florida\/florida-effectively-bans-ap-psychology-from-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their statement<\/a>, it&#8217;s actually the College Board&#8217;s fault: &#8220;Just \u200cone week before school starts, the College \u200bBoard is attempting to force \u200cschool districts to prevent students from taking the AP Psychology Course. \u2026 The \u2063other advanced course providers (including the International Baccalaureate program) had\u200b no issue\u2062 providing the college credit psychology course.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c media has taken a\u200c strong stance in favor of the College \u2063Board, portraying them as a\u200b scrappy\u200b nonprofit fighting to \u2064maintain the integrity and essential standards of their \u2063courses. They paint a\u2064 picture of Governor Ron DeSantis and his supporters as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/psych-college-board-loses-big-in-its-ap-psychology-standoff-with-desantis\/\" title=\"College Board loses AP Psychology standoff with DeSantis.\">knuckle-dragging homophobes rejecting \u200creason<\/a>. But is this narrative \u2062accurate?\u2064 Let&#8217;s \u200cdig deeper.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that the College Board is making\u200d a power play, similar\u2062 to their\u200b clash\u2062 with Disney last year. They are using their tremendous \u200binfluence to bring down and humiliate \u2062a conservative state government. \u2064 <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-18733bea3ffdf177e86251e851e2b0be fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-18733bea3ffdf177e86251e851e2b0be\"><\/div>\n<p>For decades, the College\u200b Board has held a monopoly on advanced curriculum in\u2062 secondary \u2062schools worldwide. Their main competitor, the International Baccalaureate program, pales in comparison. This monopoly has forced all campuses and districts to comply with the College Board&#8217;s dictates.<\/p>\n<p>Until the\u2062 AP African American Studies \u2063course controversy last year, no\u200c one had dared to challenge the College Board \u2062on \u200dits curriculum standards. However, DeSantis\u2063 and the Florida DOE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/02\/01\/1153434464\/college-boards-revised-ap-african-american-studies-course-draws-new-criticism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">successfully won that fight<\/a> because it\u2063 was clear that the new AP course had\u2062 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-rand-paul-offers-dr-rachel-levine-as-example-of-radical-agenda-riding-bidens-coattails\/\" title=\"Sen. Rand Paul Offers Dr. Rachel Levine As Example Of Radical Agenda Riding Biden\u2019s Coattails\">radical leftist agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, \u2064the College\u2063 Board has been seeking revenge, and they found \u2063their opportunity with AP Psychology.\u200c They picked a new fight, claiming\u200d that the course&#8217;s\u2063 standards were incompatible with Florida law. \u200dThey\u200b treated a <a href=\"https:\/\/allaccess.collegeboard.org\/allaccess\/pdf\/gj3lk7d.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter from the Florida DOE<\/a> as a declaration of war.<\/p>\n<p>However, the way the section about sexes and sexual orientation is written in the <a href=\"https:\/\/apcentral.collegeboard.org\/media\/pdf\/ap-psychology-course-and-exam-description.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AP \u200bPsychology curriculum\u200c document<\/a> \u200b does not conflict with \u2062Florida law. It \u200bdoes not require teachers to discuss queer\u200d theory or\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pornhub-strikes-back-at-utah-lawmakers-by-giving-them-exactly-what-they-want\/\" title=\"Pornhub retaliates against Utah lawmakers by fulfilling their desires.\">alternative sexual lifestyles<\/a>. The \u2064material in \u200dquestion is only a small portion \u200dof the \u200bentire course.<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u200b the attention this issue is receiving, AP Psychology is mainly\u2064 an elective AP course that students take to enhance their \u2063transcripts. Most students don&#8217;t need it\u2064 for their\u2062 college major. If the College Board insists on removing the course, Florida schools can expect students\u200b to switch to a \u2064different AP elective or take a dual-credit psychology course from a local\u200d community college. This will \u2063result in \u200bthe \u200cCollege\u200d Board losing millions \u2062of\u200d dollars from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/education\/2023\/08\/04\/ap-psychology-in-florida-state-effectively-bans-college-level-course-for-high-school-students\/70527211007\/\">30,000\u200c students<\/a> set to take the exam.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, the College Board&#8217;s \u2063attempt to challenge Florida&#8217;s laws will ultimately fail. The Florida \u200bDepartment of \u2063Education has \u200cstruck a balance between academic rigor and political activism.
