Newsom announces B plan to reopen schools by spring\">school district<\/a>\u2062 recently canceled a three-week prayer event after an atheist \u2062group based in Wisconsin sent a complaint letter.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Freedom From\u2062 Religion Foundation (FFRF) released a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ffrf.org\/uploads\/legal\/BurnetCISDTX.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ffrf.org\/uploads\/legal\/BurnetCISDTX.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">letter<\/a> to Burnet Consolidated Independent School District\u200b Superintendent Keith McBurnett, listing their grievances regarding the event. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe\u200d purposes of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., \u2064as\u200c stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to\u200c educate \u2064the \u200bpublic on matters relating to nontheism. Incorporated in \u20631978 in Wisconsin, FFRF is the nation\u2019s largest freethought association with more than \u200b39,000 freethinkers: atheists,\u200d agnostics and skeptics of any pedigree. FFRF is a non-profit, tax-exempt, educational organization under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). All dues and contributions are \u2064deductible for income tax purposes,\u201d the organization\u2019s website\u200d read. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2063letter and signers prompted the campaign to come to an early close. <\/p>\n<p>The district had\u200b organized a prayer event that was announced on Facebook,\u2063 consisting \u2062of a three<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-school-district-cancels-prayer-event-amid-protest\/\" title=\"Texas school district cancels prayer event due to protests.\">-week prayer \u200dsession commencing<\/a> on July 26<sup>th <\/sup>in the summer. The event was scheduled \u2064to conclude on August 16<sup>th<\/sup>,\u2062 the \u200dfirst day of school.<\/p>\n<p>FFRF Anne Nicol Gaylor Legal Fellow Sammi\u2062 Lawrence stated \u200dher opinions in the opposing letter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cBy promoting prayer, the\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fairfax-school-district-sends-educators-powerpoint-on-how-to-implement-critical-race-theory-in-the-classroom\/\" title=\"Fairfax School District Sends Educators PowerPoint On How To Implement Critical Race Theory In The Classroom\">district sends<\/a> an official message that excludes all\u200d nonreligious district students\u200c and community members,\u201d Lawrence said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The FFRF claims that it is a well-established fact that public schools may not encourage one \u2064religion over another or \u200ccompel students to practice it. <\/p>\n<p>They continued to argue that by \u2064promoting and encouraging prayer, the district was now showing blatant partiality towards religion \u200cover\u2063 secularism. \u200cIt was stated that the\u2063 move excludes over 30 percent of those who were not faith-based. <\/p>\n<p>In an email \u200bresponse from the district\u2019s\u200b superintendent, he confirmed that the Facebook post with the details of the event had been deleted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re glad that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-overwhelming-support-for-school-choice-in-n-c\/\" title=\"Poll: Overwhelming support for school choice in N.C.\">school officials<\/a> are taking action\u2064 to uphold constitutional neutrality,\u201d Lawrence \u200dcontinued. \u201cA school district does not need \u2062to pray \u200bfor their students and staff.
