Bill Cassidy<\/h2>\n<p>Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), the lead proponent of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act in the Senate, strongly criticized the inclusion\u2062 of abortion in the regulations, deeming it &#8220;illegal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden\u2064 administration has gone\u200c rogue.\u2063 These regulations completely disregard legislative\u2062 intent and attempt to rewrite the law by regulation,\u201d\u200b Cassidy said. \u201cThe Pregnant Workers \u200dFairness Act is aimed at assisting\u2064 pregnant mothers who remain in the workforce by choice or necessity as they bring their child to \u2064term and recover after childbirth. The decision \u200dto disregard the legislative \u2062process\u2063 to inject a political \u2062abortion\u2064 agenda is illegal and deeply concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sen. Cassidy&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/connecticut-gov-ned-lamont-eliminating-school-mask-mandate-february-28\/\" title=\"Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont Eliminating School Mask Mandate February 28\">press release emphasized<\/a> that\u2063 the law was passed with &#8220;overwhelmingly bipartisan support&#8221;\u200d under the understanding that abortion would not be included. The EEOC clarified that the rule does not require or forbid employers from paying for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/union-leadership-evaded-pay-cuts-as-pandemic-devastated-membership\/\" title=\"Union Leadership Evaded Pay Cuts as Pandemic Devastated Membership\">health insurance benefits<\/a> for an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The Alliance\u200c Defending Freedom\u200d (ADF) \u200dalso expressed concerns, stating that the EEOC \u200b&#8221;hijacked&#8221;\u200b the\u200b legislation\u200c with its abortion language.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Congress sought to help pregnant\u200c workers, \u2064not force employers to facilitate abortions,&#8221; said ADF senior\u200d counsel Julie Marie Blake. &#8220;The administration doesn&#8217;t have the legal authority to smuggle an abortion mandate into a transformational pro-life, pro-woman law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Accommodations and \u200cProtections<\/h2>\n<p>Aside from the abortion concerns, the proposed rules by the \u200cEEOC aim to provide various accommodations for pregnant workers. These include\u200c longer and \u200cmore frequent \u2064breaks, teleworking\u2064 options, job restructuring,\u200b and\u200b schedule changes.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bPregnant Workers Fairness Act, which became effective on June 27, aims to prevent employers from\u2063 denying opportunities to pregnant employees \u200cor prospects due to their pregnancy or related conditions, while also considering the employer&#8217;s ability to accommodate these needs without facing undue hardship.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This important new civil rights law promotes the \u2063economic security and\u2064 health of pregnant and postpartum workers \u2062by providing them with access to support on the job to keep \u200bworking, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eeoc-throws-abortion-wrench-in-pregnant-worker-accommodation-rule\/\" title=\"EEOC disrupts pregnant worker accommodation rule with abortion issue.\">helps employers retain critical talent<\/a>,&#8221; said EEOC Chairwoman Charlotte A. Burrows. &#8220;The EEOC\u2019s bipartisan proposed regulation furthers the \u200cagency\u2019s leadership role in fulfilling the promise of the PWFA\u2019s protections.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Public\u2064 Comment and Future Steps<\/h2>\n<p>The EEOC&#8217;s proposed regulation is open for public comment for 60 days after its publication on Aug. 11.
