The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)\u2063 is\u200b urging airlines to limit\u200c the use\u200c of this system to prevent engine-housing \u200cparts from overheating and potentially breaking away from the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 FAA is taking \u2064this precautionary measure\u200b without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arizona-attorney-general-sues-school-board-that-allegedly-sought-to-silence-outspoken-parents\/\" title=\"Arizona Attorney General Sues School Board That Allegedly Sought To Silence Outspoken Parents\">allowing public comment<\/a> first, emphasizing the \u200cseriousness of the \u2064risk to the flying public. The order will go into effect in just 15 days.<\/p>\n<p>The concern arises from \u2062the\u200b possibility of\u2062 engine inlet overheating, \u200bwhich could\u2064 cause parts of the housing\u2062 to \u200cdetach and strike a window. This could lead to decompression \u2064and pose a hazard to passengers seated\u2062 near the window.<\/p>\n<p>This finding applies\u200d to LEAP-1B engines used on \u200call versions of the Max, which \u2062are manufactured by CFM \u200cInternational. CFM International is \u2063a joint venture between General Electric and France\u2019s Safran.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-teenage-boy-allegedly-kills-9-in-school-shooting-in-serbia\/\" title=\"Teen boy reportedly kills 9 in Serbia school shooting.\">tragic incident occurred<\/a> when a Southwest Airlines passenger lost her life after part of \u200cthe engine housing on \u200dan\u2062 older version \u2062of Boeing\u2019s \u2062737 jet broke off and shattered\u2063 the window\u200b next to her seat.\u200b This engine failure\u2063 was initiated by a broken fan blade.<\/p>\n<p>While\u200d there have been no reports of the overheating problem occurring on Max flights, the FAA discovered the \u200dpotential for damage during flight testing and analysis in June.<\/p>\n<p>Boeing has stated that overheating of the inlets, which are made by Boeing itself and not CFM, can only\u2063 occur under very specific conditions and was \u2063only recently\u2064 discovered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoeing has \u2062identified measures to mitigate \u200cthe potential issue and [is] \u2064working with our customers to deploy those measures\u2062 while a permanent fix is developed,\u201d the company said in \u2062a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA is specifically addressing the issue of engine anti-ice,\u200d a system that uses hot air from \u2062the engine to heat the housing and\u200d prevent ice formation \u2064that could be\u2063 sucked into the engines.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the directive, flight manuals will\u200d now instruct pilots and airlines\u200d not \u200bto use engine anti-ice in dry air for more than\u200b five minutes. \u200bThe \u200cFAA \u2064warns that exceeding this limit could cause the \u200cengine inlet \u200binner barrel \u2062to overheat and\u200b potentially fail, damaging the inlet cowl.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA emphasizes that if parts break off \u2062from\u2063 the\u200b engine \u200dhousing, it could not only break a window but also impact other critical \u200bparts of the \u2063plane, potentially \u2063causing pilots to lose control.<\/p>\n<p>The FAA plans to publish\u2063 the rule in the Federal Register on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>It is important \u2064to note that two Boeing Max jets crashed in 2018 and 2019, resulting \u200din the loss of 346 \u2062lives. \u2062Investigations\u2062 revealed that an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/faa-warns-airlines-of-potentially-hazardous-flaw-on-boeing-max-jets\/\" title=\"FAA alerts airlines of dangerous flaw on Boeing Max Jets.\">automated flight-control system<\/a>, based on faulty\u2063 sensor readings, pushed the nose of the plane down.
