Oil prices have not been this high \u200cin \u2064seven years,\u201d Granholm said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd to be clear, the president is prepared to use every appropriate tool to ensure that Americans have access to affordable energy today.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>China would go on to receive a significant portion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bartiromo-identifies-major-difference-last-time-strategic-petroleum-reserve-low-1984-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oil \u2063released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve<\/a>, leading\u2062 to \u200bcriticism from the GOP, which argued that U.S. national security was weakened by\u200b the releases while autocracies used the releases to bolster their own petroleum stockpiles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina ramped up\u200d its purchases of crude oil from Russia and the United States to boost its own reserves, even as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ukraine-invasion-pushes-oil-prices-highest-since-2014-gas-prices-could-soar-even-higher\/\" title=\"Ukraine Invasion Pushes Oil Prices Highest Since 2014, Gas Prices Could Soar Even Higher\">oil prices surged<\/a> and President Biden called for a coordinated release,\u201d read a <a href=\"https:\/\/d1dth6e84htgma.cloudfront.net\/legacy\/uploads\/2022\/06\/06.02.2022-Energy-and-Commerce-Strategic-Petroleum-Reserve-Letter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022 letter<\/a> to Granholm from \u2062House Energy and Commerce Chairwoman\u200d Cathy McMorris Rodgers \u200cand then-Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/10-house-republicans-voted-impeach-trump-couple-remain-2-arent-woods-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fred Upton<\/a>, both Michigan Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, China \u200cmay now control the world\u2019s largest\u200c stockpile of oil, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-lawmakers-question-bidens-depletion-of-oil-reserves-as-china-strengthens-energy-ties-with-russia\/\" title=\"GOP Lawmakers Question Biden\u2019s Depletion of Oil Reserves\u00a0as China Strengthens Energy Ties With Russia\">total crude inventories estimated<\/a> at 950\u200c million barrels,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n<p>At the \u2062time, outrage over the move was pounced upon by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-energy-secretary-quietly-consulted-with-china-days-before-heavily-criticized-move\/\" title=\"Biden's Energy Secretary Consulted China Before Controversial Decision\">mainstream-media\u2062 fact-checkers<\/a>, who took issue with\u200b conservatives who were dissatisfied that a significant portion of the oil released was being gobbled up by China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat matters for the price of oil is how much oil there is \u2014 not who has it,\u201d insisted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/12\/misplaced-outrage-over-hunter-biden-us-oil-reserves-bought-by-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington \u200bPost<\/a> \u2064 fact-checker Glenn Kessler, running his usual damage control for the administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, every\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/latin-americas-communist-axis-rallies-around-vladimir-putin\/\" title=\"Latin America's Communist Axis Rallies Around Vladimir Putin\">oil industry analyst<\/a> we contacted was puzzled by the fact that the recent sale to China suddenly was controversial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One is hardly surprised that every\u200d energy sector analyst in Kessler\u2019s contact list just happened to back up his version of \u2062events; This \u2062was clearly just\u200d a friendly discussion about climate change with a CCP-linked\u2062 Chinese energy \u200cofficial \u2014 just two \u200bdays before \u2062a major release from the SPR. \u200cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re supposed to believe, according \u2062to the DOE representative charged with issuing\u200b that tissue-thin statement to the media.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019re the odds?
