In this series, Up For Debate, \u2064the Washington Examiner will\u2064 look at a key issue or policy every day up\u200c until debate day, and where key candidates stand.\u200c Today&#8217;s story will examine where the 2024 Republican presidential hopefuls \u200cstand \u2064on \u200dimpeaching President \u200cJoe Biden.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Conservative House Republicans on \u200cCapitol Hill<\/h3>\n<p>Conservative House\u2064 Republicans on Capitol Hill, including House Speaker Rep.\u200b Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), have contemplated bringing impeachment articles against President Joe Biden and his family, mainly due to\u200d his son Hunter Biden&#8217;s business interactions while he served on the board of \u2064Burisma, a Ukrainian \u2062gas company.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Up \u2064For Debate: \u2062Trump, \u2063DeSantis, \u200cand 2024 GOP Hopefuls&#8217; Stance\u200d on Spending \u2063and Debt<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve only followed\u2062 where \u2063the information has taken us. But Hannity, \u2064this is rising to \u200cthe\u200d level of \u200dimpeachment inquiry, which provides \u2062Congress the strongest \u200bpower \u2062to get the rest of the knowledge and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judge-blocks-ind-abortion-reversal-law\/\" title=\"Federal judge blocks Ind. \u2018abortion reversal\u2019 law\">information needed<\/a>,\u201d McCarthy told Fox\u200d News&#8217;s Sean Hannity late last month.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republican members\u200c of the House Oversight Committee suggested that an impeachment inquiry was necessary after Devon\u2063 Archer, a\u2063 business associate of Hunter Biden, testified \u200cbehind closed \u200cdoors with the committee.<\/p>\n<p>But the movement\u200d has divided more moderate Republicans who represent districts\u200c that Biden won\u200b and \u200dwould face tough\u200b reelection bids in \u200b2024 if impeachment charges\u200c were brought up, threatening the Republican House majority.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Senate GOP\u2064 members have \u200csignaled they have less of an appetite for impeachment. \u201cStaying \u200dfocused on the future\u2064 and not the past is in my view the best way\u200d to change the \u2063direction of\u2064 the country and\u2063 that\u2019s \u200dto \u2062win an election,\u201d\u2063 Senate Republican Whip John \u200bThune (R-SD) said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of the Republicans running for president have not hesitated, however, to support\u200c the more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-justice-rejects-church-challenge-to-disaster-law-used-in-pandemic\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Justice Rejects Church Challenge to Disaster Law Used in Pandemic\">conservative wing<\/a> of their party in moving to impeach Biden.<\/p>\n<h2>How\u200c Debate Can Be Make or Break for Candidates<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The former president has often called for \u200bthe impeachment of Joe Biden\u200b as he faces his own\u200c legal problems with \u200dthe Department of \u200dJustice, including three indictments and the possibility of another indictment before Labor Day. Trump \u2062has been indicted three times this year, \u200cfirst for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/up-for-debate-trump-desantis-and-other-2024-gop-hopefuls-stance-on-the-impeachment-of-joe-biden\/\" title=\"2024 GOP hopefuls' stance on Biden's impeachment: A topic of discussion.\">alleged hush money payment scheme<\/a>\u2064 to adult film actress \u2064Stormy Daniels during the \u20642016\u200b presidential \u2062election and then \u2064again over\u200c allegations \u200bhe mishandled\u2064 classified documents after leaving the White House.\u200b Special counsel Jack Smith indicted Trump over his efforts\u2063 to overturn the 2020 presidential\u200c election and\u200c the subsequent Jan. 6 Capitol \u200briot investigation. Trump also \u2063faces possible indictments in \u200dGeorgia over\u200c allegations he sought to overturn the\u200d Peach State&#8217;s 2020 election results.<\/p>\n<p>On \u2063his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a>, Truth Social, \u2063Trump\u2062 has often complained about the \u2062two-tier\u200c justice system between\u2064 Republicans and Democrats. \u2062&#8221;<strong>SO, THEY\u2063 IMPEACH ME OVER A \u201cPERFECT\u201d PHONE CALL, AND THEY DON\u2019T IMPEACH BIDEN \u200dFOR BEING \u2064THE\u200c MOST CORRUPT \u200bPRESIDENT \u2064IN\u200c THE HISTORY OF THE\u200c UNITED STATES???<\/strong>&#8221; he\u2064 wrote in late July.<\/p>\n<p>At a speech in Eerie, \u200bPennsylvania, over the \u200dweekend, \u2064he slammed Republicans for not bringing impeachment charges against \u200cBiden, suggesting he could endorse primary challengers against Republicans who do not favor\u2062 impeachment. &#8220;The radical lunatic Democrats, they impeach me, they indict me, they rig our elections. And the Republicans just\u2063 don\u2019t fight the way \u2014 they\u2019re\u2063 good people, but they don\u2019t fight the way they\u2019re supposed \u2063to fight,&#8221; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any Republican that doesn\u2019t act\u200b on Democrat fraud should be immediately\u2064 primaried and get out,&#8221; Trump added, to loud applause.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew\u2062 Dallek, a political historian at George Washington University,\u2062 said\u2064 that Trump calling for Biden to be impeached\u2064 is in line with \u2064his past strategy of deflection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His\u2064 pressure on the House to impeach Biden is absolutely \u200bconsistent with his double strategy\u200d of throwing everything\u2064 possible\u200d at the wall to see\u2063 what sticks\u2063 and to \u200cdivert attention from his own problems,&#8221; Dallek said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron DeSantis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Trump&#8217;s top rival in the 2024 race, has\u2063 often dithered on questions about Trump&#8217;s legal\u200c problems. Often DeSantis will excoriate the &#8220;weaponization&#8221; of \u200dthe Justice \u200cDepartment \u2062and the FBI\u2064 as\u200b he did after Trump was indicted for a third time. But \u2063when it comes to impeaching Biden, DeSantis is unequivocal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey impeached Donald Trump for a phone call. Are you trying to tell\u200d me Biden\u2019s conduct isn\u2019t as significant as \u200bthat? It\u2019s way more significant,&#8221; DeSantis told Fox News&#8217;s Jesse Waters.\u200b &#8220;So they are absolutely within their rights to do that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the\u2064 corruption that\u2019s surrounding this family\u200d is really unprecedented in the modern history of our country \u2064and the lack of interest on this\u2062 from the FBI and the Department of Justice,\u2064 it shows \u2064you weaponization,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor again reiterated his call to impeach Biden in an \u2062interview with Newsmax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the inquiry into \u2064Biden, I \u2062think that they should pursue that,\u201d \u200cDeSantis\u2062 said.\u200c &#8220;The corruption is just incredible with what\u2019s happened \u2063there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikki Haley<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former\u2063 South \u200dCarolina \u2063governor and United States \u2063ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley\u200b said McCarthy \u2062and congressional\u200d leaders were within their rights to investigate the Biden family&#8217;s business interactions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that you&#8217;ve got\u2063 Congress oversight \u200bfor\u2064 a reason. \u200cAnd I think\u200c that\u2064 they \u2064need \u200bto\u200b go and look \u2063at the evidence,&#8221;\u200d Haley told Fox \u200bNews last month. &#8220;I think\u2062 Congress would be within their, you know, \u2063their right to \u200dgo\u2063 and have\u200d that oversight \u2062and\u200c ask the \u2062questions\u200b on behalf of the American people. Whether this \u2063is a Republican or Democrat\u2062 president, we should want to\u200b know \u2064what happened, and no one \u2063should be above the\u2063 law on this.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Haley has also called \u200dout the &#8220;double standards&#8221; between Trump and Hunter Biden and stated that she\u2062 would &#8220;gut&#8221; the\u200c Department of Justice&#8217;s senior\u200c management. &#8220;You&#8217;ve got to go back to \u200cthe mission of \u200bwhat that agency is and we&#8217;ve\u200b gotta get to where people\u200c feel the government works for them and they \u200cdon&#8217;t feel that they&#8217;re working for \u2062government,&#8221; Haley\u2062 said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Christie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former New Jersey Gov. Chris \u200bChristie, one of Trump&#8217;s \u2064fiercest critics on the campaign trail, has slammed Trump&#8217;s actions leading \u200cto his multiple indictments. Yet he too\u200d has called for an investigation into \u200cthe Biden family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019ve \u200cseen\u2064 enough. We need a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">special counsel<\/a> who has jurisdiction \u200bover any and all Biden family investigations. \u2062This is a \u2063charade,&#8221; he wrote \u200bon\u200d Twitter. \u2062&#8221;Get rid \u2062of US Attorney Weiss &#038; appoint a special counsel who \u2064will investigate\u200b with competence and independence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike Pence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trump&#8217;s former vice president \u2063Mike Pence has previously slammed \u2064the Justice Department&#8217;s credibility over\u2062 its\u200c treatment of Trump. A Pence adviser told the Washington\u200b Examiner that impeachment of Biden is certainly worth exploring, and the candidate has \u200dfull faith in McCarthy \u2064and \u2063House Republicans to\u2062 make the right decision.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, after Trump was indicted a \u200cthird time, Pence has become more vocal in \u2062his criticism of Trump. &#8220;Our country is more important \u2064than one man. Our \u200cConstitution is more important than any one\u2062 man\u2019s career,&#8221; Pence \u200dsaid in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Others<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former Arkansas\u2062 Gov. \u2063Asa Hutchinson has exercised \u200ca \u200cmore cautious approach compared to his 2024 rivals. &#8220;While the whistleblower allegations are serious and must be\u2062 investigated, impeachment should not be an option until the\u200c investigation shows corrupt\u200c action by the \u2062president,&#8221; Hutchinson said at the end of June about impeaching Biden. &#8220;Impeachment should not \u2063be used \u2063as a political weapon, but reserved for serious wrongdoing.\u2062 The facts should determine what action, \u2062if\u200c any, Congress should take and impeachment\u200b should not precede a thorough\u200d investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Vivek\u2062 Ramaswamy responded \u200bto \u2064Trump&#8217;s \u200blatest indictment from\u200c Smith by filing a lawsuit against \u2062the Department\u200d of Justice and filing another Freedom of Information Act request seeking information on communications between Biden, Attorney \u200cGeneral Merrick\u200d Garland, and Smith regarding Trump&#8217;s\u200b legal prosecutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tell the truth. \u2064Biden, Garland tell us the truth about what you actually\u2062 told Jack Smith,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Is this \u2064a politicized persecution through prosecution? I\u200b certainly believe it is.\u200b But it&#8217;s the government&#8217;s job to be transparent about exactly who\u2062 told who \u200dwhat to bring about these prosecutions. Because the fact that they&#8217;re arising \u2063at\u2064 the same time is no accident,&#8221; Ramaswamy added. &#8220;And\u200d I think it&#8217;s best \u200dthat the government now be \u200dtransparent with the people about \u2064what \u200dtheir\u200b intentions\u200d actually are.
