The filing recites quotes from Trump\u2019s defense counsel in various TV appearances claiming Smith\u2019s proposed rules would suppress helpful\u2063 information from \u200cmaking\u2062 its way to\u2062 the press.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe central purpose of criminal\u200c discovery is to provide\u2063 the defendant with\u200c materials necessary to prepare for a fair trial. To facilitate \u200cthe efficient production of discovery to the defense, the\u200b Government proposed a\u200b reasonable protective order consistent with current practice in this District,\u201d<\/strong> Smith\u2064 team said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe defendant instead proposed\u200c an order designed to allow him to try this case in\u200b the media rather than in the courtroom. To safeguard witness privacy and \u200bthe integrity \u200dof these proceedings, the Court should enter the Government\u2019s proposed protective order,\u201d<\/strong> the reply added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyers <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23901780\/trumporder.pdf\">filed<\/a> their response to\u2063 Smith\u2019s proposed order just \u2063before the\u200d deadline\u2063 at 5 p.m. ET \u200dafter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-in-trump-election-case-worked-at-same-law-firm-as-hunter-biden\">U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan<\/a>, who \u2064is based in\u2064 Washington, D.C., denied their request for an extension over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bTrump legal team asked that the government\u2019s the proposed order be narrowed to \u201cshield only genuinely sensitive materials from public view\u201d or else their client may\u2062 be restricted from discussing\u2063 non-sensitive,\u200c potentially exculpatory evidence and could be precluded from\u2062 seeking the help of \u201cvolunteer attorneys\u201d or others \u201cwithout paid employment arrangements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s \u200dlawyers\u200d also \u2063warned that the government seeks to restrict Trump\u2019s First Amendment rights in a case \u200babout First \u2064Amendment rights and claimed that President Joe Biden\u200d has already \u201ccapitalized\u201d on the indictment, pointing to a \u2062re<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jack-smith-rebuffs-trump-bid-for-narrower-protected-order-judge-responds\/\" title=\"Jack Smith rejects Trump's request for a narrower protective order;
