min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen Cannon <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-08\/CannonRuling8-7-23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">rejected<\/a> the Department of \u2062Justice\u2019s (DOJ) request \u2063for confidential files stemming from a Miami grand jury\u2019s Trump indictment in June. <\/p>\n<p>Cannon also questioned\u200d prosecutors about \u200btheir continuous use of an out-of-state grand jury to look \u200binto the case.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe Special Counsel states\u2064 in conclusory terms that the \u2063supplement should be sealed from\u200d public view \u2018to comport with grand jury secrecy,\u2019 but the motion for leave\u2062 and the supplement plainly fail to satisfy the burden of establishing a sufficient legal or factual basis\u2063 to warrant sealing the motion and supplement,\u201d Cannon wrote in the brief. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong other topics \u2064as raised \u2062in the Motion,\u200d the response shall address the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate and\/or to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-seeks-explanation-for-out-of-district-grand-jury-proceeding-in-trump-docs-case\/\" title=\"Judge wants explanation for 'out-of-district grand jury' in Trump documents case.\">seek post-indictment hearings<\/a> on \u2064matters pertinent to the instant indicted\u200b matter in \u200dthis district.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The filing came\u200c amid Smith\u2019s request for a hearing to examine defense attorney Stanley Woodward\u2019s potential conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Woodward,\u200c who represents \u200bWalt Nauta, an\u200b aide to former President Donald Trump, \u2064was listed as a co-defendant in the case and was given until August 17<sup>th<\/sup> to submit a response to the application\u200b for a hearing. \u200c <\/p>\n<p>The \u200dprosecutor deadline for filing\u200b a\u2064 brief in support of the hearing was August 22<sup>nd<\/sup>. <\/p>\n<p>The \u200d37 accusations against Trump include &#8220;making\u200d false statements,&#8221; &#8220;conspiring to obstruct justice,&#8221; and &#8220;deliberate retention of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-rips-trump-for-doing-the-same-thing-the-obama-administration-did\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Rips Trump For Doing The Same Thing The Obama Administration Did\">national defense information<\/a>.&#8221;
