One group, Protect Your Children, with 5,000 members across New Jersey, voiced their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Following the adoption of\u200c the policy, some parental rights advocates reportedly threatened lawsuits, expressing their disagreement with the new approach.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>At one point during the meeting, board member Mary Beth\u200c Berry said, &#8220;locals want parental rights,&#8221; prompting cheers from the audience.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>More than 850 people submitted public comments on the equity policy, with\u2062 some expressing support\u200b and others expressing their disapproval.<\/p>\n<p>One commenter quoted C.S. Lewis, stating, &#8220;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-says-we-can-do-what-weve-been-doing-ignore-the-science\/\" title=\"Biden Says We Can Do What We\u2019ve Been Doing: Ignore The Science\">tyranny sincerely exercised<\/a> for the good of its victims may\u2064 be the most oppressive,&#8221; and criticized the changes to the \u2062equity policy as being &#8220;anti-biology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response to one commenter, the department emphasized that gender identity and gender are more complex\u2063 than suggested by the commenters.<\/p>\n<p>Another commenter argued\u200d that the changes go beyond the state board&#8217;s authority and warned\u2063 of \u2062potential legal challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Yet another commenter expressed concern that the removal of\u2064 &#8220;gender&#8221; would have a &#8220;devastating&#8221; effect \u2062on the education of New Jersey&#8217;s children \u200dand would remove girls as \u2063a protected class, urging the Education Department not to \u200dtake a &#8220;rash and radical stance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The policy defines equity as &#8220;students having the opportunity to master the goals of the curriculum in an educational environment that\u200b is fair, just, and \u200cimpartial to all individuals.&#8221; It emphasizes consistent and \u200csystematic access to curriculum, resources, instruction, and environments for all students \u200bto \u200bensure excellent outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>According to the outlet, Democrat Governor Phil Murphy&#8217;s \u2062office stated that the equity code has been protecting students based on sexual orientation and gender identity since 2003.<\/p>\n<p>However, Republican lawmakers in New Jersey disagreed, arguing that the state should not create\u2062 divisions between parents, teachers, and \u200dstudents.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;All kids deserve the opportunity to succeed in-and-out \u2062of\u2062 the classroom, \u200cbut the best way to ensure this success is \u200bby bringing their \u200bparents, teachers, and local school administrators together, not by driving a wedge \u2064between them,&#8221; said Republican state Senator Anthony Bucco, the minority leader.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The state education board approves an equity\u200c policy every\u200b seven years. The previous \u2064equity policy would have expired on \u2062August 29, according to the governor&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Gender transitions at school\u2064 have\u2063 become a contentious issue for many parents across the country, including in New Jersey.
