Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.) and thousands of dollars to Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Barbara Lee (Calif.), \u200band Chuy Garcia (Ill.). Singham\u2019s wife, Jodie Evans, the co-founder of far-left group Code\u200b Pink, \u200dsimilarly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/?data_type=processed&#038;committee_id=C00605592&#038;contributor_name=evans%2C+jodie\">contributed<\/a> $21,900\u2062 to Jayapal and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jodie.evans.169\/posts\/10155111991040952\">organized<\/a> a fundraiser for the \u2063lawmaker in 2018. Evans has also contributed to Rep. Cori Bush (D., Mo.) and Lee&#8217;s Senate campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> on Saturday revealed that Singham <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/05\/world\/europe\/neville-roy-singham-china-propaganda.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&#038;referringSource=articleShare\">poured millions\u200d of dollars<\/a> into activist groups that push pro-Beijing propaganda to Western audiences, often in collusion with Chinese state-owned\u200c media organizations. Singham has given $1.4 million to Code Pink, which\u2062 Evans co-founded \u200bin 2002. The <em>Times<\/em> noted that Code Pink and Evans \u200chave morphed from \u200cvocal critics of China\u2019s human rights abuses \u2062to strident defenders of Beijing\u2019s foreign policies.<\/p>\n<p>While \u2062Singham denies\u200d that he works \u200dat the behest of\u2063 Beijing, \u2064his spending spree comes amid heightened concerns \u200bover the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s covert support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fox-news-is-a-uniquely-destructive-force-leftists-call-for-boycott-of-fnc\/\" title=\"\u2018Fox News Is A Uniquely Destructive Force\u2019: Leftists Call For Boycott Of FNC\">left-wing activist groups<\/a>. Sen. Ted\u2064 Cruz (R., Texas) and Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.) \u200clast week <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/2023.08.03-Sen.-Cruz-Chair-Comer-letter-to-AG-Garland-re-FARA-Environmental-Groups.pdf\">called<\/a> on the Justice Department\u200b to investigate whether environmental\u2064 groups\u2063 have acted as agents of the Chinese government. One group linked to China, the Climate\u2062 Imperative Foundation, is <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/energy\/billionaire-backed-green-group-working-to-ban-gas-stoves-counts-chinese-government-official-as-top-adviser\/\">behind the push<\/a> to regulate gas\u2063 stoves.<\/p>\n<p>The progressive lawmakers funded by Singham and Evans, who married\u200b in 2017, have opposed efforts to scrutinize \u200cChina&#8217;s government, including the formation of \u2063a House committee that aims to pull back the curtain on the CCP\u2019s influence operations in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Jayapal <a href=\"https:\/\/jayapal.house.gov\/2023\/01\/10\/house-progressives-on-opposition-to-republican-select-committee-on-china\/\">organized<\/a> \u2063fellow Congressional Progressive Caucus members to vote against\u200c the creation of \u2062the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, claiming that the \u200cpanel would\u2062 stoke &#8220;anti-Asian&#8221; hate \u200ccrimes. In February, members of Code Pink <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codepink.org\/_codepink_disrupts_china_hating_house_select_committee\">disrupted<\/a> the first hearing of the House panel, which the group referred to as a\u200b &#8220;China-hating&#8221; committee.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2021, Omar urged the Biden administration\u200c to \u200doppose a crackdown on China over concerns about a &#8220;Cold\u200b War mentality&#8221; that &#8220;demonizes\u200c Chinese Americans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Singham funds organizations \u200dthat promote the same arguments. \u200bOne such group, No \u2064Cold War, organized a 2021 rally in London to address anti-Asian hate crimes, according to the <em>Times<\/em>. The protest became a riot after members of No Cold War attacked members \u2063of a group that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-tech-mogul-bankrolls-a-chinese-propaganda-network-and-left-wing-lawmakers-like-ilhan-omar\/\" title=\"Tech mogul funds Chinese propaganda network, supported by Ilhan Omar.\">supported pro-democracy activists<\/a> in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>The extent of Singham&#8217;s relationship with the progressive lawmakers he \u200cfunds is unclear,\u200d but his wife recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=10159051937945952\">met<\/a> with Lee, who is running to replace outgoing \u2062Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.).
