The lawsuit argues that the \u2063Department of Education is overstepping its authority with the \u2062forgiveness plan and asks the judge to \u200drule it illegal.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit is &#8220;a desperate attempt from right<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/defending-the-rights-of-hoosier-girls-to-fair-competition-in-athletics\/\" title=\"Defending The Rights Of Hoosier Girls To Fair Competition In Athletics  \u00a0\">-wing special interests<\/a> to keep hundreds of thousands of borrowers in debt,&#8221; the\u200d Education \u2064Department\u200c said in \u200ba statement, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2023\/08\/06\/groups-sue-to-block-bidens-second-try-on-student-loans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Press<\/a>. &#8220;We are not going to back down or give an inch when\u2064 it\u2064 comes to defending\u200b working families.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-latest-student-debt-bailout-plan-faces-legal-challenge-from-think-tanks\/\" title=\"Biden's student debt bailout plan challenged by think tanks.\">original student debt \u2064forgiveness plan called<\/a>\u2062 for \u2062relieving\u2062 up to $20,000 worth \u200bof federal debt for an estimated 43 million borrowers. The administration faced a\u2064 couple of legal challenges, and it was \u200bultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/2023\/06\/supreme-court-strikes-down-biden-student-loan-forgiveness-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thwarted<\/a> after several \u2062states argued it would illegally relieve loans that they had agreed\u200c to service, costing \u2064the\u200d states up to tens of millions of dollars every year.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2064Supreme Court ruled \u200dthe plan unconstitutional on June 30, knocking down Biden&#8217;s attempt at \u2063fulfilling\u200d a campaign promise that had always\u2062 appeared to be in doubt.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Roughly two weeks later, on \u200dJuly 14, the administration rolled \u2063out its\u200c next, scaled-back version.<\/p>\n<h3>Education \u200cSecretary Miguel Cardona&#8217;s Statement<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;For far too long,\u200b borrowers fell \u2062through the cracks of a broken\u200c system that \u200bfailed to keep accurate\u200b track \u2062of their progress towards forgiveness,&#8221; Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/biden-harris-administration-provide-804000-borrowers-39-billion-automatic-loan-forgiveness-result-fixes-income-driven-repayment-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> at \u200cthe time. &#8220;Today, the \u2064Biden-Harris Administration is taking another historic step \u200cto\u200b right these wrongs and announcing \u200b$39 billion in debt relief for\u2063 another 804,000\u200b borrowers.
