Joe Manchin \/\u200c Getty Images<br \/>\n    <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>    \u200c West Virginia Democratic \u2063senator <strong>Joe Manchin<\/strong> is <strong>begging<\/strong> Majority Leader <strong>Chuck Schumer<\/strong> (D., N.Y.) to flood his state with campaign spending as\u200b he \u2063stares down \u2062a difficult reelection bid in\u200d 2024, \u200caccording to a new report.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    Manchin \u200b&#8221;<strong>wants Schumer to spend money in \u2062his state to \u2063help prop up his poll\u2062 numbers before he decides whether he&#8217;ll run<\/strong>,&#8221; the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/08\/03\/manchins-ira-anxiety-sparks-tensions-with-schumer\/\">reported<\/a> Friday. Manchin, who is considered a top GOP target, \u200bis up for reelection next year \u2064but\u200b has yet to commit to a run, instead\u2063 flirting with a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/elections\/if-i-get-into-the-race-im-going-to-win-manchin-teases-third-party-run-at-no-labels-event\/\">third<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/signs-hint-that-joe-manchin-could-be-preparing-for-potential-third-party-presidential-bid-report\/\" title=\"Joe Manchin may be considering a third-party presidential bid, according to reports.\">-party presidential bid<\/a><\/a> against President Joe Biden. As a\u2063 result,\u2062 Manchin &#8220;<strong>doesn&#8217;t\u200c want to\u2063 spark speculation that he&#8217;s running for \u200creelection by making an \u2062ad buy to boost\u2064 his image<\/strong>&#8221; and would\u2062 rather rely on Schumer to spend in West \u2063Virginia on his\u2062 behalf, according to the <em>Post<\/em>.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u2063 Manchin&#8217;s request to Schumer \u2062comes as the red-state Democrat battles abysmal approval ratings. Just 33 percent of West Virginians approve of Manchin, compared with\u2064 59 percent\u200c who \u200bdisapprove, according to an\u2062 East Carolina University <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4026468-justice-tops-manchin-by-22-points-in-new-poll-on-senate-race\/#:~:text=The%20same%20survey%20found%20that,a%2059%2Dpercent%20disapproval%20rating.\">poll<\/a> published in May. The poll also found that Manchin \u2062trails\u2064 Republican governor \u200cJim Justice, who in April announced his bid to take \u200cdown Manchin, by a whopping 22 points \u2062in a \u200bhypothetical matchup. \u2063Unlike \u2063Manchin, Justice\u200d enjoys high approval ratings\u201457 percent of West Virginians approve of \u200cthe governor, compared with 29\u200d percent\u200b who disapprove.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u2062\u2064   For\u2062 now, Schumer\u200b does not appear to be willing to \u200dspend on Manchin&#8217;s behalf in West Virginia. Schumer \u200d&#8221;<strong>doesn&#8217;t want to spend money before Manchin commits<\/strong>&#8221; to running for reelection and \u200cis &#8220;<strong>irked<\/strong>&#8221; \u200dthat\u200d Manchin is considering a \u2064presidential bid, the <em>Post<\/em> reported. Should both Manchin \u200cand Schumer \u200cdecline \u2064to\u200c flood West Virginia with campaign cash, \u2062Manchin&#8217;s poor\u2062 poll numbers are \u200dmore \u2063likely to stick, making \u200ba potential campaign against Justice an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/manchin-begs-schumer-to-boost-potential-reelection-bid-amid-flailing-poll-numbers\/\" title=\"Manchin pleads with Schumer for support as poll numbers decline.\">increasingly difficult battle<\/a>.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u200c   Manchin&#8217;s campaign did not return a request for comment.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u2062    In addition to Schumer&#8217;s frustration with\u2064 Manchin&#8217;s presidential aspirations, \u200bthe majority leader is \u2062reportedly unhappy with Manchin&#8217;s recent criticisms of the Inflation Reduction Act, the Democrats&#8217; flagship climate change bill. Manchin last year <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/joe-manchins-election-cycle-transformation-begins\/\">emerged<\/a> as the bill&#8217;s &#8220;chief architect,&#8221; and he praised the legislation just months ago as &#8220;<strong>the most\u200d transformative bill that we&#8217;ve ever had in \u200bthe United \u2064States, in Congress<\/strong>.&#8221;\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u200c    But as Manchin prepares for a potential \u200breelection\u200c campaign in a state that twice \u2063voted overwhelmingly for former president Donald Trump, he&#8217;s worked to distance himself\u200d from the act. The legislation\u2064 calls for hundreds of billions of dollars\u2062 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-fisker-automotives-lost-taxpayers-tens-of-millions-top-investors-turn-to-proterra\/\" title=\"After Fisker Automotives Lost Taxpayers Tens of Millions, Top Investors Turn to Proterra\">green energy spending<\/a> and is thus unpopular among coal-reliant West Virginians. \u2064Manchin in April said he would go as far as to &#8220;<strong>vote to repeal [his] own bill<\/strong>,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/joe-manchins-election-cycle-transformation-begins\/\">citing<\/a> President Joe Biden&#8217;s efforts to &#8220;<strong>liberalize<\/strong>&#8221; the \u200dlegislation.\n  <\/p>\n<p>    \u200d Manchin&#8217;s Inflation\u2064 Reduction Act attacks have &#8220;<strong>become a growing source of tension<\/strong>&#8221; between Manchin and Schumer, according to the\u200d <em>Post<\/em>. \u2062Biden,\u200b Schumer, and \u200bother liberal \u2063lawmakers plan to \u2063tout the legislation ahead of its one-year anniversary next week, but\u200d Manchin has not committed\u200c to attending.<br \/>\n \u2062\n  <\/p>\n<p>    Should Manchin decide \u200bto run ads in West Virginia, he has $10.8 million in\u2063 his\u200d campaign account to do so.
