U.S. District Judge \u2062Aileen Cannon, in a Monday order, demanded an explanation \u2063for the \u2064use\u200d of an &#8220;out-of-district\u2062 grand jury.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Protecting Grand \u2062Jury Secrecy<\/h3>\n<p>Special counsel Jack Smith \u2063had requested \u200dto file two supplements under seal,\u2063 arguing \u200cthat it was necessary \u200cto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-orders-release-of-more-mar-a-lago-search-warrant-information-in-trump-classified-docs-case\/\" title=\"Judge orders more Mar-a-Lago search warrant info released in Trump classified docs case.\">protect grand jury secrecy<\/a>. However, Judge Cannon denied this request\u2063 in her order. She also \u200bcalled on Smith to clarify &#8220;the legal propriety \u2063of\u2062 using\u200b an out-of-district grand\u200b jury proceeding to continue to \u200dinvestigate and\/or to seek\u200d post-indictment hearings on matters pertinent to the instant\u2063 indicted matter in this district.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Clerk is directed to Strike\u2064 from the docket sealed entries 95 and 96,&#8221; according to the docket text from the case, which is being handled \u200din the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Furthermore,\u200c Judge Cannon set an August\u2062 17 deadline\u200d for Trump&#8217;s co-defendant, Walt Nauta, to respond to a Justice Department motion. The motion informed Nauta that his\u200b attorney, Stanley\u200b Woodward,\u2063 has represented &#8220;at least seven other\u2062 individuals who have been questioned in connection with the \u200dinvestigation.&#8221; The government requested\u2063 a Garcia hearing with Woodward&#8217;s client to\u2064 &#8220;inform them of potential risks\u2063 and inquire into possible waivers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Both Trump and his co-defendants have the option to file their own briefs\u200c on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/irs-sends-memo-informing-employees-of-whistleblower-rights-following-pressure-from-congress\/\" title=\"IRS informs employees of whistleblower rights after Congressional pressure.\">grand jury matter<\/a> by August 17, although Judge Cannon stated that \u200bthis \u200bwas not mandatory. The prosecution, on the other hand, must file its response by August 22.<\/p>\n<h3>The Mystery of the Grand Jury<\/h3>\n<p>It remains unclear where the\u2063 grand jury mentioned by \u200bJudge Cannon is being convened. However, the government&#8217;s August\u200b 2 motion for the Garcia hearing referenced\u200d a grand jury \u2064in the District of Columbia. Additionally, a grand jury in the Southern District of Florida\u200b is still actively investigating matters related to the\u200d Mar-a-Lago case.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The grand jury in this district and a grand jury in the District of Columbia continued to investigate further obstructive activity,&#8221; according to a \u2063background section for the government&#8217;s August 2 motion \u200bfor the Garcia hearing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Trump&#8217;s Legal Battle<\/h2>\n<p>Donald Trump is currently facing a 38-count indictment that accuses him of willfully hoarding classified documents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-in-trump-documents-case-strikes-justice-department-filings-and-questions-out-of-district-grand-jury\/\" title=\"Judge strikes DOJ filings in Trump documents case, questions 'out-of-district' grand jury.\">including top secret records<\/a>,\u2064 at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. He is \u2062also accused\u2063 of conspiring with his valet, Walt Nauta, to hide \u2063these documents from investigators \u2063who demanded their return.<\/p>\n<p>Last \u200bweek, the former president was arraigned on four counts related to his alleged efforts to\u2064 subvert his 2020 election loss.
