Hail Thyself'.\">transgender\u200d graphic designer\u200c made \u2063national headlines<\/a> this June when a number of\u2062 her \u200cdesigns were used in Target\u2019s controversial pride collection. One design found on the\u200d London-based designer\u2019s own online apparel shop \u2064has the message: \u201cSatan respects pronouns,\u201d encircling a goat head.<\/p>\n<p>The designer, whose shirts\u200d feature phrases like \u201castrology made\u2062 me queer\u201d and \u2062whose UFO-shaped pin says \u200d\u201cno gender no problem,\u201d doesn\u2019t claim on \u200dher site to be a Satanist per se. \u2063Instead, \u201cErik\u201d says, \u201cThere\u2019s something \u2062magical about the\u200b unknown, the frightening, and \u200cthe mystical which is why I so frequently feature these themes in my art.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1051229347\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-05ea2b5c7196932b072a408d0163a16a fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-05ea2b5c7196932b072a408d0163a16a\"><\/div>\n<p>Erik\u2019s work isn\u2019t the only \u200cpride-adjacent satanically\u200d inspired activity to feature in pop culture recently. The brand Nair, which supports pride \u2063as\u2064 evidenced by \u2063its Instagram posts, \u200cran an audacious \u201cworship \u200dyourself\u201d ad campaign that harks back\u200d to \u200cthe \u201cfather \u200dof modern Satanism\u2019s\u201d motto,\u2063 \u201cHail Satan! \u200cHail thyself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the 2023 Grammy\u200b award show, self-proclaimed \u201cnonbinary\u201d singer Sam Smith \u2064and transgender Kim\u2064 Petras\u2019 performance of \u2062their hit single \u201cUnholy\u201d included blatant satanic imagery.<\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2064 and Petras don\u2019t \u2063publicly identify as Satanists, but many LGBT members and \u201cpride\u201d \u200dproponents do.\u200c A simple\u200d search\u2063 of \u201cSatanist\u201d among Twitter accounts brings up countless results that include rainbow flags and gender tags such as\u2062 \u201cnonbinary\u201d and \u201cshe-they.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucien Greaves, cofounder of the Satanic Temple, \u200bsays \u200bmost members of the Temple are LGBT folks who consider themselves rejected by orthodox churches and \u200bother \u2064such religious establishments. Greaves told Out.com, \u201cWe will always fight them, we \u200bwill fight them to the\u200c death to ensure that there\u2063 are \u200cequal rights for the gay community.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-96e0c77ff72195991637a0b65b460b45 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-96e0c77ff72195991637a0b65b460b45\"><\/div>\n<p>History shows, too, that \u2064Satanism\u2062 has been a fitting spiritual home\u2062 for the \u2063pride \u2064\u201ccommunity.\u201d Aleister Crowley,\u2062 the early 19th-century occultist credited with being the \u201cgrandfather\u201d \u200bof modern theistic Satanism, was\u2062 keenly interested\u2064 in\u2063 ancient\u200d pagan \u2064deities, many of\u2063 whom are seen \u200ctoday as \u201cgender-bending.\u201d\u2064 Androgyny or hermaphroditism was seen by Crowley and other forebearers of the modern occult \u200das mystical,\u2062 powerful, and closer to the divine. Crowley\u2019s \u2064\u201cGnostic \u2062Mass\u201d\u200b includes the phrases:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Male-female, quintessential,\u2063 one<\/p>\n<p>Man-being\u200c veiled \u2063in woman-form.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The infamous icon of Satanism, the goat-headed \u2062\u201cBaphomet,\u201d\u200b represents a fusion of the male and female, \u2062with the two halves of the body representing each sex. The \u201cdivine\u2064 androgyne\u201d is \u201cthe hieroglyph of arcane perfection,\u201d according to \u200cCrowley.\u200c While Baphomet has a complicated history of iterations \u200cand interpretation, it\u2019s not \u2062unreasonable to imagine that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ohio-republicans-propose-bill-to-block-child-sex-changes\/\" title=\"Ohio Republicans Propose Bill to Block Child Sex Changes\">gender-confused young people<\/a> might welcome this binary-breaking\u200c symbol of \u201cbalance and harmony\u201d and see a satanic sect as a spiritual home \u2063for\u2063 them.<\/p>\n<p>The two most famous philosophical statements\u2062 of the 20th century\u2019s most iconic\u2063 Satanists, Crowley\u200d and Anton \u2064LaVey, \u200dserve to\u200d illustrate\u200d the strong ties between modern \u201cpride\u201d and their belief systems. The life of Crowley especially finds continuity in the \u2063gender-expansive, free-love universe of pride.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Hail \u2064Satan! \u200bHail Thyself\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>In the 1960\u2019s, LaVey, known\u200b as the \u201cBlack\u200b Pope,\u201d created\u2064 a Satanism \u200bthat differed \u2063from other, older satanic traditions \u2063in\u2062 that it claimed to be atheistic, considering \u2062Satan to be a literary figure. LaVey\u2019s most famous\u2063 chant is \u201cHail Satan! Hail Thyself.\u201d His Satanism prescribes self-worship and gratification: staples \u2064of \u2063LGBT\u2064 pride \u2064culture.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99866c9e2202c1194a49f1b5e71815a7 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99866c9e2202c1194a49f1b5e71815a7\"><\/div>\n<p>Two\u2064 of \u200chis Nine \u2062Satanic \u2063Statements are: \u201cSatan\u2062 represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead \u2063to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!\u201d and,\u2064 \u201cSatan\u2064 represents indulgence instead of \u200dabstinence!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While most who\u200c wave the rainbow flag no doubt would agree that, \u200cfor instance,\u2062 murder is wrong (a \u200c\u201cso-called sin\u201d Satan represents), pride nevertheless allies itself with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-fight-bidens-overseas-abortion-order\/\" title=\"Republicans Fight Biden\u2019s Overseas Abortion Order\">pro-abortion agenda<\/a>. The right to murder a preborn baby leads to \u201cmental and emotional gratification\u201d \u2063for \u2064the abortive mother (and \u2064often her sexual partners). And ridding oneself of progeny\u200b to care for promotes further indulgence Satan is\u200b said to\u2062 represent.\u2063 Proponents of sexual\u200c libertinism and gender fluidity don\u2019t usually describe themselves as \u2062Satanists, but \u200dLaVey\u2019s philosophy\u2063 of carnal hedonism is the\u2063 bedrock of \u200btoday\u2019s\u2063 pride \u2064culture.<\/p>\n<p>Writing for the Encyclopedia of Religion,\u200c professor\u2062 of religious studies Eugene V. Gallagher describes LaVey\u2019s Satanic Bible as promoting \u201critual \u200band pageantry\u201d \u200cand displaying \u201ca flair for\u2063 mockery.\u201d On a ritualistic \u2063and philosophical level, drag queen, queer, and homosexual subcultures would mesh\u2063 well\u2062 with LaVeyan Satanism. What is\u200b drag but\u200c pageantry mocking femininity? And what\u200d would foment the mockery of Judeo-Christian sexual norms and \u200bfamily structure better than hailing Satan, the enemy of the \u2062God who made \u200bhumankind into \u2063the \u2064\u201crestrictive\u201d physiological\u200c categories of \u201cmale and \u200cfemale\u201d?<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Do What\u2062 Thou Wilt\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>One familiar \u200brepeated sentiment in \u200dCrowley\u2019s 1909 The Book of\u200c the Law\u200c has \u200bechoed through \u200dculture for over a \u200bcentury now: \u201cDo \u200cwhat thou wilt shall \u2064be the whole\u200b of \u200bthe law. \u2026 \u200dLove is the law, \u200blove\u200c under will.\u201d We may not know \u200bit verbatim, but we recognize \u2062its other \u200citerations such \u200bas \u201cfollow \u200dyour heart\u201d or \u201cdo what you want\u201d or \u201call \u200dyou need\u2063 is love.\u201d These popular cultural expressions guide the pride\u2062 movement; they encourage the\u200b unshackling of human expression from heterosexual mores.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike LaVey who \u200bcame \u2063after,\u200b Crowley was an unabashed theistic Satanist. He wrote\u200c in his autobiography of his desire to \u201cget \u2063hold of [Satan] personally and become his chief of\u200d staff\u201d and \u200c\u201cget into personal communication with the Devil.\u201d His pride \u2064and\u200b egotism, modeled in today\u2019s pride movement,\u200c would seem prerequisites even to aspire\u2062 to such a \u200bposition.<\/p>\n<p>Activities\u200c the Bible labels sexual depravity, the kind celebrated in \u2064pride parades,\u200b were rampant in Crowley\u2019s life. Early on,\u2062 he rejected Christian\u200b morality and \u200csaw taboos \u2062as things to be deliberately shattered. The occultist \u2062was keen on \u201csex magic\u201d and was bisexual, \u2062as \u2063evidenced by his more recently discovered homoerotic poetry. The Book of the Law reflects his \u2062belief in \u201cfree love,\u201d a\u2064 lifestyle most accepted within pride: \u201cAlso, take your \u2062fill\u200b and will of love as\u200c ye will, when, where and with \u2063whom ye will!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, we can see \u2063the blending with LaVey\u2019s and Crowley\u2019s philosophies under the rainbow flag:\u200c While so-called love is esteemed,\u2062 the only true \u200dreverence is for the self, and the only \u200dallegiance \u2062is\u2063 to\u200c its will. The highest virtue is the expression of one\u2019s \u200btrue self: to live\u2064 authentically, \u2063or live your truth. \u201cHail thyself\u201d and \u201cdo what thou wilt\u201d are guiding principles of the pride\u200d movement.<\/p>\n<p>In Christian theology, pride is the original sin that prompted God to cast Satan down from heaven. He now leads a rebellion against God\u2019s\u200d will.\u2062 What a \u200bwonder\u2062 is it that pride is the name taken on by the LGBT alliance, which\u2062 is\u200d also \u2063leading\u200c a rebellion against biblical\u200c morality?\u2063 Those who don\u2019t support pride are routinely shocked by the rhetoric,\u2062 imagery, and stated \u2063desires of \u200dthe pride movement, such as offering graphic sexual material to young children\u200d in\u2064 school libraries.<\/p>\n<p>But it should come as no \u2063surprise that rebellion against God\u2019s design for humanity is\u200c satanically inspired.
