It\u2019s going to cost\u2063 you even \u2062more now.<\/p>\n<p>Peacock,\u200b NBCUniversal\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/comedy-star-andrew-schulz-reveals-strike-may-expose-streaming-companies-backfire-actors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">streaming<\/a> service, is instituting its first-ever \u2063price hike\u200d since launching\u2064 in 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/digital\/news\/peacock-price-increase-1235672565\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>NBCUniversal notified the platform\u2019s\u2062 users last month they will now pay $5.99 per month \u200bfor Peacock Premium, effective Aug. 17. The original price was \u2062$4.99.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, \u200dthe ad-free Peacock Premium\u200d Plus plan will now cost $11.99 per month, up from $9.99 earlier\u2063 this\u2062 year.<\/p>\n<p>The change will go \u2063into effect for \u2062existing subscribers with\u200d their next billing cycle on or around \u200bAug. 17, and new\u2062 customers will \u200dpay the updated\u2062 price \u200bimmediately after subscribing.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribers can save 17 percent if they choose the annual plan, per Peacock\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacocktv.com\/plans\/all-monthly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. The \u200bad-supported Premium tier will be available for \u200d$59.99 per year, and the ad-free Premium Plus version will cost $119.99 per year.<\/p>\n<h3>Peacock&#8217;s \u200cGrowing Subscriber Base<\/h3>\n<p>At the end of its first fiscal \u2064quarter this year, \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/john-wick-get-spin-off-series-massive-box-office-success-top-billed-actor-missing-trailer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peacock<\/a> \u200c hit 22 million subscribers. This was up more than 60 percent year over year, according to NBCUniversal\u2019s parent company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmcsa.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/comcast-reports-1st-quarter-2023-results#:~:text=Domestic%20Broadband%20Average%20Rate%20Per,Year%20Period%20to%2022%20Million.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the streaming platform added two more\u2062 million subscribers \u2064for a\u2064 total of \u200d24 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/7\/27\/23809705\/peacock-comcast-2-million-subscribers-earnings-q2-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Verge<\/a> reported. \u200bThat \u200cwas \u200babout the same amount Comcast reported gaining in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Both fiscal 2023 \u200cquarters combined however\u200c did not meet the numbers the company saw in 2022\u2019s fourth quarter, \u200bwhich brought in an\u200c additional five \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disney-stock-tanks-as-subscription-numbers-plummet-in-second-quarter\/\" title=\"Disney Stock Tanks As Subscription Numbers Plummet In Second Quarter\">million paid subscribers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, NBCUniversal\u200b is\u200b projected to lose $3 billion on investments in \u2062Peacock at the end of 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>Streaming \u2062Services \u200dIncreasing \u2064Prices<\/h3>\n<p>Peacock is one of many streaming services jacking up their\u200c prices to increase profitability in the face of \u2064major losses.<\/p>\n<p>These platforms include\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/no-yellowstone-shows-creator-says-will-quit-paramount-enacts-new-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paramount+<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/need-act-fast-disney-green-lights-demonic-new-show-sickest-plot-yet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disney+<\/a>, and\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/suspected-netflix-serial-killer-arrested-police-reportedly-eyeing-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix<\/a>, which was \u2062the first to \u200draise\u2063 its prices in early \u20622022.<\/p>\n<p>Because streaming is becoming so \u2062expensive, some companies are losing customers.<\/p>\n<p>In the first three \u200bmonths\u2064 of 2023, Disney+ \u2064lost four million paid subscribers\u2062 despite its extensive library of Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and\u2062 National Geographic titles, per \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/news\/disney-plus-subscribers-q2-earnings-1235607524\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety<\/a>. Disney will unveil its next <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dune-and-the-art-of-big-screen-beauty\/\" title=\"\u2018Dune\u2019 And The Art of Big Screen Beauty\">quarterly earnings report<\/a> \u200csoon as it\u2019s typically released in August.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Warner Bros.
