He firmly believes\u200b that\u2062 the charges, which \u200calso reference Trump\u2019s alleged\u200b involvement in the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot, are nothing more than \u2063\u201can effort \u2062to \u200bprevent President \u200bTrump from running\u200c for president\u201d in the \u20622024 election.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lauro, &#8220;What we have here is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pro-trump-meme-maker-ricky-vaughn-indicted-for-using-twitter-to-spread-election-disinformation-to-hillary-clinton-voters-faces-10-years-in-prison\/\" title=\"Pro-Trump Meme Maker \u201cRicky Vaughn\u201d Indicted For Using Twitter to \u2018Spread Election Disinformation\u2019 to Hillary Clinton Voters \u2013 Faces 10 Years in Prison\">political speech<\/a>, where President Trump is\u2062 petitioning the government.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Last week, \u200ba <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/missouri-man-charged-with-threatening-to-murder-2-us-congressmen\/\" title=\"Missouri Man Charged With Threatening to Murder 2 US Congressmen\">federal grand jury<\/a>\u200d in Washington, D.C., indicted Trump on\u200b four\u200d counts for his alleged involvement in challenging President Joe Biden\u2019s Electoral College\u200d victory. The Department of\u2063 Justice charged Trump\u2064 with Conspiracy to Defraud the \u2064United States, Conspiracy to Obstruct an Official Proceeding, Obstruction of an\u2063 Attempt to Obstruct an\u2064 Official Proceeding, and Conspiracy Against Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Lauro \u200cstrongly argues\u200d that the indictment against Trump is an attack on his First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the examples in this indictment are\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-sides-with-ted-cruz-6-3-in-campaign-finance-dispute\/\" title=\"SCOTUS Sides With Ted Cruz 6-3 in Campaign Finance Dispute\">core political speech<\/a>,\u201d Lauro emphasized. \u201cEvery single thing that President Trump is \u2063being prosecuted for involves \u2062aspirational asks \u2014 asking state legislatures, \u200basking state governors, asking state electoral officials to do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, even asking Vice President [Mike] Pence was protected by free speech,\u201d he added. \u201cNone \u200cof that is illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Special Counsel Jack \u2062Smith, who is leading the investigation into Trump, \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-indicted-jan-6-investigation-special-counsel-debb59bb7a4d9f93f7e2dace01feccdc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> referred \u200dto the events of January 6 as an \u201cunprecedented\u200d assault on the seat of American democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was \u200bfueled by lies, lies by the defendant targeted at \u200bobstructing a bedrock function of \u200dthe U.S. \u2064government: the nation\u2019s process of collecting, counting, and certifying the results \u200cof the\u2062 presidential election,\u201d Smith stated.<\/p>\n<p>Trump vehemently \u200cdenies any wrongdoing and accuses\u2064 the indictment of being \u201celection interference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the lead-up to the 2022 midterm elections and their aftermath, Lauro claims that President Biden made\u200b repeated statements about a plan to prevent his predecessor from running for president again. It is worth noting that Trump is currently the frontrunner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=1245&#038;v=AaLzTM0hpi0&#038;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsweek.com%2F&#038;source_ve_path=MjM4NTE&#038;feature=emb_title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addressed<\/a> the media after the 2022 midterms, telling reporters, \u201cWe just have to demonstrate that he will not take power by, if we, if he \u200ddoes run.
