According to Barr, doing so would have given the Biden administration an opportunity to cancel the probe\u200c once Biden took office \u200bas president.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview with\u2062 Major Garrett on &#8220;Face The Nation,&#8221; Barr explained,\u2064 &#8220;To appoint a special counsel, \u200cthere needs to be a conflict of interest. I had no conflict of interest in investigating Hunter \u2064Biden. \u200bIf there was a \u2064conflict, it\u200d would \u200chave been Attorney General Merrick Garland&#8217;s decision to make when he took office.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Barr further elaborated, &#8220;I believed that preempting Garland&#8217;s decision would have led to the investigation being canceled. I wanted to ensure that our U.S. Attorney remained\u200b in place. Once Garland assumed his role, it was his responsibility to determine if a thorough and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-legislation-aims-to-punish-china-for-covid-lies\/\" title=\"GOP Legislation Aims To Punish China for COVID Lies\">fair investigation<\/a> was being conducted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Support for a Special Counsel<\/h3>\n<p>Despite\u2062 his decision, \u200bBarr \u2062expressed agreement \u2062with House Republicans who \u200dbelieved that a special counsel should have been appointed under\u2062 Attorney General Merrick Garland.
