min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisappointed is \u2062the\u2063 right\u2062 word,\u201d French \u2063Swimming Federation head Gilles Sezionale said on local \u200cradio. \u201cFirst \u200dand foremost disappointed for \u2062the athletes, who were dreaming of competing in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Participants had \u200cbeen barred from morning training on Friday for \u2062the same reason. <\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s women\u2019s 10\u200c kilometre race \u2013 a\u200b qualifying event \u2063for\u2064 the Olympics \u2013 had originally been postponed to\u200c Sunday, when the Federation and World Aquatics cancelled both it and\u2062 the equivalent men\u2019s race. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s obvious that extra work is required with Paris 2024 and local authorities to guarantee solid emergency plans \u200care set up for next year,\u201d said World Aquatics.<\/p>\n<p>The Olympics committee said in\u200b a separate statement that new infrastructure would be up and running by summer 2024, which should ensure better\u2062 water quality and make the Seine swimmable.<\/p>\n<p>An 80 billion euro ($88 billion) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/swimming-pollution-on-seine-scuppers-open-water-world-cup\/\" title=\"Seine pollution ruins Open Water World Cup swim.\">underground overflow \u200dbasin designed<\/a>\u2062 to\u2063 prevent\u2063 bacterial contamination of the river by heavy rains is expected to\u200d be completed before the games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Triathlon Test Event to Proceed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World Triathlon said on Sunday that triathletes \u200dwould still compete on the Olympic and Paralympic courses for the Paris 2024 test event from Aug. 17-20 \u2013 with the swimming legs taking place in the Seine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Paris 2024 and World Triathlon, \u200bthe health and safety of athletes is our \u2062top priority,\u201d\u200b the sport\u2019s\u200c governing body said in \u2063a \u2062statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will therefore\u2026 continue to\u2062 carefully monitor water\u200b quality over the coming days, in the confident\u200d expectation \u2013 based on the current \u2064weather forecast \u2013\u2062 that elite athletes will\u2064 compete in the Seine \u2063later this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the\u2063 unlikely event\u2063 that \u2064water quality does not meet the requirement of World Triathlon and public health\u2062 authorities,\u200c a contingency plan is in place which\u2062 would see the\u200d race(s) shifted to a duathlon format.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On\u2064 Thursday, the Guardian reported that at \u200cleast\u200d 57 participants fell \u2064ill after competing \u2062in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/triathlon-swimmers-complain-of-suffering-sickness-and-diarrhoea-after-sunderland-event\/\" title=\"Swimmers at Sunderland triathlon report illness and diarrhea.\">sea swimming events<\/a> at the World Triathlon Championship \u2063Series in Sunderland, \u2064England.<\/p>\n<p>  (Reporting by Juliette Jabkhiro, additional reporting by\u2063 Aadi Nair;
