Just those four scant coastal schools are what remains of the same conference \u200cthat produced some mighty sports dynasties, like Lew Alcindor\u2019s UCLA Bruins, Reggie Bush\u2019s \u2064USC Trojans, or the recent run of Oregon Ducks supremacy.<\/p>\n<p>(Yes, how weird is it that the iconic 2006 Rose Bowl \u200bbetween Texas, formerly of the\u200d Big 12, and USC, formerly of the Pac-12, would now \u2062be \u200cclassified as an SEC vs. Big 12 battle?)<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s to say nothing of some of the Pac-12\u2019s most legendary coaches like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/drew-brees-thrills-fans-by-bringing-the-only-known-john-wooden-jersey-back-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Wooden<\/a>, Lute Olson or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pete-carroll-burns-michael-bennett-and-richard-sherman-guys-cant-hang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pete Carroll<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those\u2062 legacies will\u200d now find themselves in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pac-12-conference-crumbles-after-mass-exodus-of-schools-heres-where-they-are-now\/\" title=\"Pac-12 Conference collapses as schools flee - Find out their current whereabouts.\">rapidly growing \u201csuper\u201d conferences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The\u2064 New Homes of \u200cFormer Pac-12 Members<\/h3>\n<p><strong>University of Arizona, Arizona\u200d State University<\/strong>: The two \u2064rivals both announced their intention to join the Big 12 on Friday \u200dnight, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/38134807\/college-football-2023-conference-realignment-big-ten-pac-12-sec-florida-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>University of \u200bUtah, University of Colorado,\u200b Boulder<\/strong>: The Utes in Salt Lake \u200dCity, Utah,\u200d will be \u2062joining the Arizona\u2062 schools. Colorado was actually one of the first to jump ship to the Big \u200c12.<\/p>\n<p><strong>University of California, Los Angeles, University of Oregon,\u200b University of Southern California, University\u200c of Washington<\/strong>: This quartet\u200c of schools will be joining the Big Ten conference.<\/p>\n<p>All conference realignment\u2064 goes into effect July 1,\u2062 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Pac-12 put out a statement on X, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> formerly \u200dknown as Twitter,\u2062 confirming\u2064 the sudden exodus:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Statement from the Pac-12 Conference: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XKwEqw9A3C\">pic.twitter.com\/XKwEqw9A3C<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Pac-12 Conference (@pac12) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pac12\/status\/1687638511737040896?\">August 5, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s news is incredibly disappointing for student-athletes, fans, alumni and staff of the Pac-12 who cherish the over 100-year history, tradition and rivalries of the Conference of Champions.\u2063 We remain focused on securing\u200d the best possible future for each of our member universities,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Those remaining \u201cmember universities\u201d are also \u2064facing their \u2062own \u2064grim prospects due to the Pac-12\u2019s sudden downfall.<\/p>\n<p>Cal and Stanford, according to ESPN, could very well be scooped up by the Big Ten conference, but short of that, it\u2019s not looking good\u200b for\u200b the two schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt leaves both very much \u2062in survival mode,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/espn-analyst-collapses-air-sends-live-broadcast-panic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sports outlet<\/a> notes. \u201cThey both have large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/education-insanity-top-10-stories-of-the-week-vol-31\/\" title=\"Education Insanity: Top 10 Stories Of The Week (Vol. 31)\">athletic departments<\/a> that rely heavily on TV money to operate, and it\u2019s hard to envision a scenario where both don\u2019t end up\u200b cutting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/washington-commanders-radio-host-fired-calling-sports-anchor-barbie-girl-comments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sports<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Things are even grimmer for Oregon State and Washington State, both \u2062of which ESPN called \u201ccultural fits\u201d \u200din the Mountain West conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem here is that both athletic departments have long operated with the\u200b expectation\u200c of $30 million or more in \u2063TV money and in the Mountain West, they won\u2019t\u200c get anywhere near \u2064that,\u201d ESPN noted. \u200d\u201cThat shortfall would force both schools to essentially reinvent how their athletic departments operate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Pac-12 began as the Pacific Coast Conference in 1915, before becoming the Athletic Association of Western Universities from 1959 to 1968.<\/p>\n<p>In 1968, the conference adopted its\u200b current naming format, going with the Pac-8, before becoming the Pac-10 in \u20641978.<\/p>\n<p>The Pac-12 properly came \u200cinto existence in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pac-12-conference-crumbles-mass-exodus-schools-now\/\">Pac-12 Conference \u2062Crumbles\u200c After Mass Exodus \u200dof \u2062Schools \u2064- Here&#8217;s Where They Are Now<\/a> appeared first \u200con <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\">The Western\u2062 Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With only four teams remaining, the Pac-12 clings to its &#8220;Conference of Champions&#8221; title.
