(AP Photo\/Andrew Selsky, File)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/roy-francis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roy Francis<\/a><br \/>8:45 AM \u2013 Saturday, August 5, \u20642023<\/h2>\n<p>A new Colorado law will raise the \u2064legal gun buying age from 18 to 21 years of age\u200d on \u200cMonday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The new law, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/leg.colorado.gov\/bills\/sb23-169\" target=\"_blank\">SB23-169<\/a>, \u200cis part of a \u2064collection of \u2063new\u2063 \u201cgun reform\u201d \u2063laws that were approved and signed \u2064by Governor Jared \u2062Polis \u2064(D-Colo.) in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>The law will \u2063go into effect statewide on Monday, \u2064with the only exceptions being \u2064active \u2063members of the United States military, peace officers, and people who have been certified by the Peace Officer \u2063Standards and Training board.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b sponsors of the new law clarified that this was not meant to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/colorado-raises-gun-buying-age-to-21\/\" title=\"Colorado increases minimum gun purchasing age to 21.\">criminalize legal gun owners<\/a>, but to protect \u200bthe young people \u200dof the \u200dstate.\u200b The\u200b State Majority House \u2063Leader, Monica Duran (D-Colo.), said that this law is a result of the increase in domestic violence.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t \u200dtrying to infringe on anybody\u2019s rights,\u201d she said.\u200b \u201cWhat \u2064it comes down to is\u200b saving lives, we know that youth suicide has increased. The \u200ceasier it is to access something, the more likelihood that it can\u2063 be used in a way that could be detrimental to not \u2064just our youth but our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gun rights groups \u2064throughout the\u2063 state have filed lawsuits \u2064against the\u2062 Governor\u2019s office and the state as \u200ba result \u200dof the new \u200cseries of laws being passed. Rocky Mountain Gun Owners have also filed a\u2064 lawsuit, as well \u200cas a Temporary Restraining Order to try\u200d and prevent the law from going \u2063into effect.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-announce-executive-action-on-guns-thursday-plans-to-outlaw-ghost-guns\/\" title=\"Biden To Announce Executive Action On Guns Thursday, Plans To Outlaw \u2018Ghost Guns\u2019\">group argued<\/a> that\u2063 the \u2062law is unconstitutional, and that if a person under\u200d 21 can be\u2062 drafted into the military and put their\u200d life\u200d on the \u200bline for \u200btheir country,\u2063 then they should be able to own a gun.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cYou can be\u2063 drafted into the\u2062 military. You can go and\u200c die \u200bfor your country, but \u200dyou can\u2019t own a\u2064 gun. That\u2019s\u200c just wrong,\u201d the group Executive Director Taylor Rhodes told Fox 21.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gun shops and ranges \u2064across \u200dthe state will most likely see a decrease in sales and profits, however, some say they are\u2062 more worried about \u200cthe people\u2019s ability to defend themselves. <\/p>\n<p>DCF Guns\u200b store\u200c manager,\u200c Kevin Day, \u2064spoke with Fox 21 and said that the \u2062best thing they\u200b can do moving forward \u200dis to\u2062 <strong>continue to educate the public.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cPeople under the age of 21 are \u2064no longer going\u2063 to have the right to defend themselves with firearms,\u201d Day said. \u201cThe\u200d best thing we can\u2062 do is continue to educate the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stay\u2063 informed!
