Democrats must protect seats in Republican terrains such as Ohio and West Virginia and in swing\u200c states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise that Sens. Joe Manchin\u2063 (D-WV), Sherrod Brown \u200d(D-OH), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ),\u2064 Bob Casey (D-PA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Jacky Rosen \u200d(D-NV) have not commented on the\u200c most recent charges.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) was the exception. The Montana senator,\u200d who is running\u2062 in a state\u2062 where Trump won by 16 percentage points in 2020, had a spokesperson issue a carefully\u200d worded statement on the most recent indictment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-general-killed-near-aberdeen-proving-ground-first-responders-rush-field\/\" title=\"US General slain near Aberdeen Proving Ground - First responders race to scene.\">local media \u2064outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSenator Tester\u2064 believes everyone should be treated fairly and without bias \u2063during a criminal \u200binvestigation and he expects \u200bthe treatment of former President Trump will be no different,\u201d a spokesperson told Montana Free Press. \u201c[Tester] \u200chas said our criminal justice system must be without\u200d political \u2064influence, \u2064where no one is above the law, and all Americans are\u200c presumed innocent until proven guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-senators-up-for-reelection-in-2024-mostly-quiet-on-trump-indictment-2\/\" title=\"Most Democratic senators seeking reelection in 2024 remain silent on Trump's indictment.\">legal cases\u200c dominating recent news cycles<\/a>, Democratic \u2063strategists believe it\u2019s wise for candidates in more red-leaning states to steer clear of the topic \u2063as they \u200dattempt \u200bto court voters\u200c outside\u2062 of their \u200dparty base.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s no upside for a vulnerable\u2062 senator\u2063 in a red-leaning state to go out and talk about\u200c the former president&#8217;s indictment. It&#8217;s a political loser,\u201d said Jon\u2063 Reinish, a prominent Democratic strategist, in an interview with the Washington\u200d Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin, Manchin, and\u2064 Arizona Senate candidate Rep. Ruben\u200d Gallego (D-AZ) had previously \u2062commented on prior \u200dTrump indictments \u200blike the civil case regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-rejects-trump-bid-to-shield-financial-records\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Rejects Trump Bid To Shield Financial Records\">hush money payments made<\/a> to an \u200cadult film\u200b actress and the\u2063 charges revolving around the classified documents case. But, Reinish believes this latest indictment is different because the charges have more political significance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a very big\u2063 one, you know, has \u200cdirectly\u2063 to do with an election. And it is about an election that Donald Trump won again, quite handily in their states,\u201d Reinish explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a lot more safety for a Democratic senator, you\u2063 know, or lawmaker of any stripe in a conservative state\u2063 to issue some \u2063kind of a statement\u200d about a national security \u200cissue, but really going back and being seen as\u2062 litigating, you know, an election\u200c in which the former president did really well your state,\u200b has no \u200cupside whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven four years later, why poke the bear,\u201d Reinish questioned rhetorically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Different Approach for Democratic Senate Candidates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Democratic candidates running for Senate who are not incumbents\u2064 are taking a different approach. Rep. Elissa Slotkin \u2063(D-MI), who is in the Democratic primary race to take over retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow\u2019s (D-MI) seat, issued a powerful statement on X, the \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> formerly \u2062known \u2062as Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA former president\u200c using the power of his office\u200b to lie and attempt to thwart the will\u2062 of American voters is an American tragedy,\u201d Slotkin posted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Slotkin\u2019s Democratic primary opponent, \u2064Hill Harper, also responded to the indictment, writing,\u201d NO ONE is above the law. Not \u2064even a current or former president. We can\u2019t let \u200bextremists win \u2014 \u200bour democracy is on the \u200bline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Colin\u2064 Allred (D-TX), who is in \u2063the race challenging Sen. Ted Cruz \u200c(R-TX) for his seat in a relatively safe Republican state, also reacted to the indictment on X, writing,\u2063 \u201cTed Cruz \u2062is\u2062 using Trump\u2019s indictment over \u200bhis role in Jan\u200c 6 insurrection to promote his\u2062 podcast and call America a banana republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the 2024 Senate election begins \u2063to\u2064 take shape,\u200c some experts \u2064believe Trump\u2019s indictments could be\u200d a political liability for Democrats in red-leaning states, \u2062with Republicans casting them as political prosecutions \u2062led by \u200bPresident Joe\u200b Biden\u2019s \u200dJustice Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying this will be a \u2063deciding issue in these races, but I am concerned that the current indictments and looming ones could\u200d have\u200b negative consequences for vulnerable Democrats running,\u201d said one Democratic strategist who requested anonymity in\u2062 an effort to reflect\u2063 on the situation. \u2062\u201cVoters are hearing all about this constantly, and I worry \u200babout\u2062 how Republican candidates will\u2062 try to spin this all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focusing on Kitchen Table Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead of talking about Trump or the indictments, Reinish advises candidates to\u2064 focus and campaign exclusively on kitchen table issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAvoid the toxic fulcrum \u2064of national and nationalized\u200c politics; talk about what you&#8217;re doing\u2062 to\u200c deliver results in fighting for\u2062 your constituents on those\u2063 issues,\u201d He said. \u201cThat&#8217;s the winning strategy.
