The three independent senators caucus with Democrats, \u2062which means Democrats will be defending 23 of the 34 seats in \u200d2024. \u2062Democrats must protect seats in Republican terrains such as Ohio and \u200dWest Virginia and in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise that Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), Bob Casey (D-PA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) have not commented on the most recent charges.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) was the exception. The Montana senator, who is running in a state where\u200d Trump won by 16 percentage points in 2020, had a spokesperson issue a carefully worded statement on the most recent indictment to local media\u200b outlets.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSenator Tester\u2062 believes everyone should be treated fairly and without bias during a criminal\u2062 investigation \u200dand he expects the treatment of former President Trump will\u2064 be no different,\u201d a spokesperson told Montana Free Press. \u201c[Tester] has said our criminal justice\u200b system must be without political influence, where no one is above the \u200blaw, and all Americans are presumed innocent until proven guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-senators-up-for-reelection-in-2024-mostly-quiet-on-trump-indictment\/\" title=\"Most Democratic senators seeking reelection in 2024 remain silent on Trump's indictment.\">legal cases \u2063dominating recent news \u200bcycles<\/a>, \u2062Democratic strategists believe it\u2019s wise for candidates \u2064in more red-leaning states to \u200csteer clear of \u200bthe topic as they attempt to court voters outside of their party base.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s no\u2062 upside for a vulnerable senator in a red-leaning state to go out and talk about the former president&#8217;s indictment. It&#8217;s a political loser,\u201d said Jon Reinish, a \u200dprominent Democratic strategist, in an interview with the Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin, Manchin, and Arizona Senate candidate Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) had previously commented on prior Trump indictments like the civil case \u200bregarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-rejects-trump-bid-to-shield-financial-records\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Rejects Trump Bid To Shield Financial Records\">hush money payments made<\/a> to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-michael-avenatti-sentenced-to-30-months-in-prison-after-reportedly-crying-in-court\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Michael Avenatti Sentenced To 30 Months In Prison After Reportedly Crying In Court\">adult film actress<\/a> and the charges revolving around the classified documents case. But, Reinish believes this latest indictment is different because the charges have more political significance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a very big \u2063one, you know, \u2063has directly to do with an election. And it is about an election that Donald Trump won again, quite handily in\u200c their states,\u201d Reinish explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a lot more safety for a \u200dDemocratic senator,\u2064 you know, or lawmaker \u2063of any stripe in a conservative state to issue some kind of a statement about a national security\u200d issue, but really going back and \u200dbeing seen as litigating, \u200byou know, an election in which the former president did really well your state, has no upside whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven four years later, why poke the bear,\u201d Reinish questioned rhetorically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Different Approach \u2064for Democratic Senate Candidates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Democratic candidates running for Senate who are not incumbents are taking a different approach. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), \u2064who is in the Democratic primary race \u2064to take over retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow\u2019s (D-MI) seat, issued a powerful statement on\u200d X, \u2063the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> \u200dformerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cA former president using the power \u200bof \u200bhis office to lie and attempt to thwart the will of American voters is an \u2062American tragedy,\u201d\u2063 Slotkin posted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Slotkin\u2019s Democratic primary opponent, Hill Harper, also\u200c responded to the indictment, writing,\u201d NO ONE is\u200b above the law. Not even a\u2063 current or former president. We can\u2019t let extremists win\u200b \u2014 our\u200b democracy is\u200c on the line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), who is in \u2062the race challenging Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for his seat in a relatively\u2063 safe Republican \u2064state, also reacted to the indictment \u2063on \u2063X, writing, \u201cTed Cruz\u2062 is using Trump\u2019s indictment\u2063 over his role in\u200c Jan 6 insurrection to promote his podcast and call America a banana republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the 2024 Senate election begins to take shape, some experts \u200dbelieve Trump\u2019s indictments \u200ccould \u2064be a\u2063 political liability for Democrats in red-leaning \u2062states, with Republicans casting them as political prosecutions led by President\u2064 Joe Biden\u2019s Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying this will be a deciding issue in these races, but I am concerned that\u200b the current indictments and looming ones could\u200c have negative consequences for vulnerable\u200d Democrats running,\u201d said one Democratic strategist who requested \u2062anonymity in an effort to \u200breflect on the situation. \u201cVoters are hearing all\u2064 about this\u200b constantly, and I \u2063worry about\u2063 how Republican candidates will try to spin this\u200b all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focusing on Kitchen Table Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead of talking about Trump or the indictments, Reinish advises candidates to focus and campaign exclusively on kitchen table issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAvoid the toxic fulcrum\u200c of national and nationalized politics; talk about what you&#8217;re doing to deliver results in fighting for your \u2062constituents on those issues,\u201d He said. \u201cThat&#8217;s the winning strategy.\u2063 There&#8217;s \u200bno upside to talking about Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM \u200bTHE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many Democrats on Capitol Hill are openly commenting on former President Donald Trump&#8217;s recent indictment, but those facing reelection in competitive states in 2024 are remaining silent.
