Both patients \u200cwere exposed \u2062to pigs less than 10 days \u2062prior to symptom onset and were treated with antivirals. Neither patient was hospitalized.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;To \u200bdate, no person-to-person spread of this virus has been identified,&#8221; said\u2063 the CDC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the\u2063 CDC, flu viruses \u2064from humans and birds can infect pigs,\u200c giving viruses the opportunity to swap genes \u2063with\u2063 naturally occurring \u200bpig viruses. This &#8220;very rarely&#8221; creates new viruses that\u200c can spread from \u2063pigs to humans and have person-to-person transmission capacity, which is the postulated origin of the H1N1 swine flu pandemic in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC estimates that, from April 2009 to April 2010, there were 60.8 million \u2062cases of the H1N1 swine flu in \u2063the \u2063U.S., resulting in over 274,000\u2064 hospitalizations and nearly 12,500 deaths. Worldwide, the CDC estimates that between 151,700 and 575,400 people died from the H1N1 outbreak during the first year, with 80% of those\u200c deaths\u2064 being people younger than 65.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Taking precautions while visiting agricultural or state fairs is strongly recommended. Avoiding\u200b eating or drinking around livestock and washing hands after visiting livestock showings is advised. \u200cThe CDC also \u2063advises fair organizers to prominently list\u200c the risks of swine flu \u2064and other zoonotic diseases for visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Those with \u2064immunocompromising conditions \u200dor who are older than 65 are advised to\u200d take additional precautions, such as\u2064 masking, while around \u2062livestock.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>flu viruses are uncommon, they can still occur.
