The \u2064settlement amount is a staggering $4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Lashawn Thompson, a 35-year-old man with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/9-year-old-girl-pepper-sprayed-during-interaction-with-rochester-police\/\" title=\"9-Year-Old Girl Pepper Sprayed During Interaction With Rochester Police\">mental health issues<\/a>, was arrested\u2063 on June 12, 2022, for \u200ba <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-of-man-allegedly-eaten-alive-by-bugs-in-jail-settles-for-4-million\/\" title=\"Family of man reportedly killed by bugs in jail settles for M.\">misdemeanor simple battery \u200bcharge<\/a>. He was placed in the psychiatric wing of Fulton County Jail. However, three months later, on September 19, Thompson was discovered dead in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/family-says-atlanta-inmate-was-eaten-alive-by-bed-bugs-lawsuit\/\" title=\"Family Says Atlanta Inmate Was \u2018Eaten Alive\u2019 By Bed Bugs: Lawsuit\">filthy jail cell<\/a>, having been &#8220;eaten alive&#8221; by insects and bed\u200b bugs, according to family attorney Michael Harper&#8217;s statement on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted 6-0 to\u200b approve the mediated settlement. Inside \u2064Edition reported that the family will not be making a statement regarding the settlement, as Harper stated, &#8220;The Fulton County Commissioners&#8217; vote speaks for itself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Activist attorney Ben\u2062 Crump, who also represented the family, released a \u200cjoint statement with Harper following the settlement.\u200b The statement emphasized that while they are satisfied with \u2064the\u2063 settlements, they are far from achieving full justice. They pledged to continue working with the Thompson family\u2062 and the community to prevent such tragedies from happening again.<\/p>\n<p>Crump previously revealed that Thompson had schizophrenia and did not receive the necessary medication during his time in jail. He was neglected for 93 days, resulting in severe malnourishment and dehydration, causing him to\u200b lose 30 pounds. The forensic pathologist hired by Thompson&#8217;s family concluded that his death was \u200ca result of severe neglect and inadequate care.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulton County medical examiner initially listed Thompson&#8217;s cause of death as &#8220;undetermined.&#8221; However, jail \u2062records \u200crevealed that officials and medical staff were aware of \u2062his deteriorating health but failed to provide him with the necessary aid. Harper&#8217;s Facebook post also mentioned that one\u2064 detention officer refused to administer CPR when Thompson&#8217;s body was found.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the tragic circumstances, Harper expressed that Thompson did not deserve such treatment and that someone must be held accountable for his death.
