Upadhyaya to enter a not-guilty plea \u2063to the charges against him \u2062in connection with his challenges to the 2020 election. The judge addressed him as \u201cMr. Trump\u201d with no reference to him as \u200ca former \u200bpresident, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2023\/08\/03\/trump-arraignment-dc-indictment-jan-6-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington \u200dPost<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That \u200cmade Democrats and their supporters happy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Wow. This tells us up front that the judge has already set their own bias in.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2064 Robin T (@RealRobinToupin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealRobinToupin\/status\/1687276260060442624?\">August 4, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Upadhyaya did issue a warning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/live-blog\/trump-indictment-arrested-charges-2020-election-rcna97647\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC<\/a> said\u2063 was not common.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinally, sir, I want to remind you that \u2062it is a crime to try to influence a juror,\u2063 or to threaten or attempt\u2063 to bribe a witness or any other person\u200b who may have information about your case, or to retaliate against anyone for providing information about your case to the prosecution, or to otherwise\u2062 obstruct the administration of justice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, will hear\u200b Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-hands-trump-win-says-stolen-election-claims-protected-presidential-immunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">case<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-indictment-judge-tanya-chutkan-capitol-riot-9ba5c18d315697d759521425ea203012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated\u200c Press<\/a> called her a \u200b\u201ctough punisher\u201d who has handed down stiff sentences against those convicted of\u2063 crimes in the Capitol incursion.<\/p>\n<p>AP noted that in a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nightmare-brewing-trump-gets-assigned-judge-latest-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> 2021 hearing<\/a>, Chutkan \u2064rejected\u2064 any comparison between those\u200c who rioted\u2062 after the death of George Floyd and the Capitol incursion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople gathered all over\u200d the country last year to \u200dprotest the violent murder\u200b by the police of an unarmed man.
