The code includes a total of 30 rules \u200bthat \u200cwent\u2064 into \u2064effect at the start of the 2023-2024 school year on Aug.\u2062 4, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlox.com\/2023\/08\/03\/harrison-county-schools-add-new-controversial-rules-dress-code\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WLOX-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The dress code includes the following guidelines:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Boys and girls \u2062must \u2064adhere to the dress attire consistent \u200dwith\u200d their biological sex as stated \u2062in their student records.<\/li>\n<li>Boys must wear shorts or pants,\u2063 shirts, and footwear according to the Harrison County School District&#8217;s dress code.<\/li>\n<li>Girls must wear\u200d dresses, skirts, \u200cshorts, or pants, \u2064along\u200d with shirts or blouses and\u200d appropriate footwear as per the school district&#8217;s dress code.<\/li>\n<li>Hoods on garments are not permitted \u200cto be \u200cworn indoors or\u200d on\u2064 school buses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The dress code gained attention\u200b after the \u200bschool\u200c district&#8217;s decision to prevent a transgender\u2062 boy \u200dfrom wearing \u2063a dress to his high school\u2062 graduation. The student, identified as &#8220;L.B.,&#8221; filed a \u200cmotion to challenge the school&#8217;s decision, but a federal\u2063 judge appointed by former President Donald Trump upheld the \u2062district&#8217;s ruling, denying L.B.&#8217;s motion.<\/p>\n<p>The school district argued that participating in a graduation ceremony\u2064 is not a fundamental \u2062right, especially \u2064since the student had already completed the school year and was \u2064no longer enrolled.\u200c Additionally, the district emphasized\u200c that the student&#8217;s school record identified him as\u200d male.<\/p>\n<p>While \u2064the American Civil\u2063 Liberties Union (ACLU) of Mississippi supported\u2063 L.B.&#8217;s motion, it did not provide assistance\u200b to a 12-year-old boy who was reprimanded and \u200dsent home for wearing a shirt \u2062that stated, &#8220;There\u200b are only \u2064two genders.&#8221; This raises questions about the \u200cinconsistency in defending free speech rights.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Brave \u200cMiddleborough \u200cstudent Liam Morrison wore this shirt to school today to protest the district censoring his free speech previously when he wore \u2064a shirt that \u2063said \u2018There Are Only Two \u200dGenders.\u2019 The district made him take this\u200d shirt off too.
