Mitt Romney<\/h2>\n<p>A \u200dUtah \u2064mayor is making \u2062waves in his bid to\u2064 challenge Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) in the upcoming Senate race. Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs has \u2064positioned\u2063 himself as\u2063 the best conservative alternative to the one-term incumbent, and\u200c he&#8217;s gaining support from a slate of local \u2063state legislators.<\/p>\n<h3>Local Support Grows for Staggs<\/h3>\n<p>A group of 11 \u200belected officials and state\u200c leaders have officially endorsed Staggs in his Senate campaign.\u200d This includes backing from several local council \u200dmembers, highlighting Staggs&#8217;s commitment to \u2063his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-watch-herschel-walker-ad-recalls-georgia-football-legends-small-town-roots\/\" title=\"Exclusive \u2014 Watch: Herschel Walker Ad Recalls Georgia Football Legend's Small-Town Roots\">small-town roots<\/a> while running for statewide office.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, \u2063two Utah mayors, Kelly\u2064 Bush and Mike\u200c Weichers, have thrown their\u200d support behind Staggs. Although Wilson has not \u200byet declared\u2063 a Senate\u2064 bid, he has amassed over $2.1 million in cash on hand.<\/p>\n<p>If all three candidates ultimately run, it could set the stage\u2064 for one of the most competitive GOP primaries of the 2024 cycle.<\/p>\n<h3>Romney&#8217;s Uncertain Future<\/h3>\n<p>Sen. Mitt Romney has not\u2063 yet announced whether he intends to run for reelection. While he has \u200bfiled his reelection\u200b with the Federal Election Commission, his plans remain undisclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Romney&#8217;s long-standing reputation as a prominent national figure, having served as the governor of Massachusetts \u200dand the\u200d 2012 Republican nominee for president, could\u200d work in his favor if he decides to run again. However, his willingness to \u2063break with his party, particularly in relation to former President Donald Trump, has drawn criticism.<\/p>\n<p>As the \u2062only Republican senator to vote to impeach Trump twice, Romney&#8217;s\u200c chances in the reliably red state of Utah are uncertain.
