This training is mandated \u2063by Minnesota \u2062law and \u2063aims to address personal bias \u2062and its impact on relationships with students, families, and school communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and \u200cStandards Board \u200d(PELSB) first introduced a more general version\u200d of cultural competency training in 2020. However, in April, Native Americans and Alaskan natives \u2063were given their own\u2062 separate category \u200dwithin \u2062the training.<\/p>\n<p>To pass the training, teachers must meet the Standards of Effective\u2064 Practice, which requires them\u2063 to not \u200donly\u2064 understand their \u2064students&#8217;\u2064 various identities and beliefs but\u200b also affirm\u200c them\u2064 and help them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blake-masters-slams-tucson-school-district-for-splc-curriculum\/\" title=\"Blake Masters Slams Tucson School District for SPLC Curriculum\">develop positive social identities<\/a>. Teachers are also expected to \u200dsupport \u200dstudents in recognizing and addressing biases, discrimination, prejudices,\u200d and structural inequities.<\/p>\n<p>PELSB argues that\u200d since most\u200c teachers are white, it is crucial\u200b for\u200d them to\u2062 confront their implicit\u200d bias. They \u2063believe that understanding \u200btheir own\u200d bias\u200d and their students&#8217; unique lived experiences \u200cis a core\u2063 requirement for effective teaching.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that\u2063 cultural\u200d competency training\u200b can range in cost from $30 to $670 for two graduate credits. The validity of cultural competency training providers is approved \u2064by PELSB&#8217;s Committee to Increase Teachers of Color\u2062 and \u200cIndigenous Teachers.<\/p>\n<h3>Resistance and Support<\/h3>\n<p>The implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/minnesota-teachers-now-required-to-pass-native-american-cultural-competency-training\/\" title=\"Minnesota teachers must now pass Native American cultural competency training.\">cultural competency training faced resistance<\/a> during the public input period.
