This comes\u2062 just days after Justice Samuel Alito claimed the opposite,\u200d sparking tensions as\u200d Democratic lawmakers aim to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kagan-clashes-with-alito-on-supreme-court-ethics-code-congress-can-regulate\/\" title=\"Kagan and Alito disagree on Supreme Court ethics code: 'Congress has regulatory power'\">ensure ethical behavior<\/a> from the nine justices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course Congress can regulate various aspects of what the Supreme Court does,&#8221; Kagan, 63, confidently stated. She emphasized the importance of checks and\u2062 balances \u200bin \u2063our system, stating, &#8220;It just\u2062 can&#8217;t be that the court\u200b is the only \u200dinstitution that\u200b somehow is \u200dnot subject to\u200c any checks and balances from anybody\u200d else. \u2064I mean, we&#8217;re \u200bnot imperial.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kagan expressed her hope that the Supreme Court can \u2064establish its own code of conduct to address the \u200bongoing questions surrounding the balance of\u2062 power between the legislative and judicial branches. &#8220;The nine of \u2062us have a variety of views about\u2062 that,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<h3>Alito&#8217;s Controversial View<\/h3>\n<p>Justice Kagan&#8217;s remarks followed an op-ed by Justice Samuel Alito \u2064in the Wall Street Journal, where he \u200dargued that Congress\u2062 lacks\u2062 the authority \u200bto establish ethics rules for the justices.\u200b &#8220;Congress did not create the \u200cSupreme\u200c Court,&#8221; Alito stated. &#8220;No provision in the Constitution gives \u200cthem the authority to regulate the Supreme Court \u2014 period.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These differing opinions highlight\u2062 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/reporter-presses-biden-admin-8-times-to-name-1-sanction-improperly-put-on-iran-by-trump-they-cant-name-any\/\" title=\"Reporter Presses Biden Admin 8 Times To Name 1 Sanction Improperly Put On Iran By Trump. Sheldon Whitehouse\u200c (D-RI) that aims to implement a code of \u200bconduct for Supreme Court justices and establish a process to investigate violations.
