About 8:30 and my husband heard a hiss and \u200ba\u2062 pop, and he went into\u200c the \u200dgarage full of smoke. It engulfed in flames and exploded.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The\u200d woman added \u2063that \u200cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/think-price-oil-bad-lithium-needed-make-electric-cars-472-since-last-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric car<\/a> was just sitting there and was \u200bnot on a charger or anything when it went\u2062 up in flames.<\/p>\n<p>It turns out the particular\u200c model had recently been recalled because computer\u2064 systems \u2063were sometimes not alerting owners to \u200cbattery problems. It is not known if\u2062 the car Ruotolo was given had fulfilled its recall repairs.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, the woman \u2062is now \u2063sifting through her fire and soot-damaged home to\u200d see which of her \u200bbelongings\u2063 are worth saving.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2063 told the station that the \u200bfire\u200c \u201cengulfed\u200c the entire garage, and as you can see to the attic, and to \u200cthe\u2064 second floor, \u200cand we believe the house is a tear down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b aggrieved homeowner is a bit miffed that the car she brought home from a dealer \u200cwas so \u2062dangerous.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs a loaner\u200c vehicle, we\u2062 expected it would function and be\u200c safe,\u201d\u200b an exasperated Ruotolo said. \u2062\u201cI could\u2064 be biased, but I don\u2019t\u2064 think they\u2019re ready for market. This is Mercedes brand. I can\u2019t speak for all of them, but I would not recommend buying\u2063 one anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Still, she is glad her family\u2064 escaped serious injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel blessed that \u200dmy husband\u200c is alive. He was right on the next side of the wall. He could be,\u200b should be \u200cdead, and \u200che\u2019s \u2063alive, and our puppy is alive, so \u2064I\u2019m \u2064thankful for that,\u201d Ruotolo said. \u201cThis could have been devastating and life-changing, but at this \u200bpoint it is just a\u2062 challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>EV Fires: A Growing Concern<\/h3>\n<p>Sadly, Ruotolo\u2019s \u2062experience is\u2062 nothing new. The \u200dnumber of \u200dfires sparked by malfunctioning EVs is growing by the month. And while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-recent-failures-of-green-energy-policies\/\" title=\"3 Recent Failures of Green Energy Policies\">gas-powered cars<\/a> do \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kia-recalls-almost-380k-vehicles-for-fire-danger-tells-owners-to-park-outside\/\" title=\"Kia Recalls Almost 380K Vehicles For Fire Danger, Tells Owners To Park Outside\">catch fire<\/a> more often that \u200cdo\u2064 EVs, the\u2062 difference is that \u2064gas cars\u2063 rarely catch fire just\u200b sitting in a garage. There are \u200calso a \u2062few other\u200d caveats in the statistics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscentermaine.com\/article\/news\/special-reports\/maines-changing-climate\/electric-vehicle-battery-fire-risk\/97-c4a3c306-8f34-4f94-bf67-02e5dfd60066\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WCSH<\/a> reported in \u200dJune.<\/p>\n<p>Most gas car fires\u200b occur in older vehicles whereas EV fires happen among newer models. Also,\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/homeowner-says-do-not-buy-evs-after-mercedes-ev-loaner-burns-to-a-crisp-taking-her-home-with-it\/\" title=\"Homeowner warns against purchasing EVs as Mercedes loaner burns down, destroying her home.\">gas-powered cars rarely catch fire<\/a> unless\u200c they are in operation \u2062and not just sitting turned off in a garage or parking spot.<\/p>\n<p>But firefighters all across the\u200d nation are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/firefighters-issue-warning-ev-fires-require-10x-water-put-10000-gallons-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> EV owners to\u2062 keep a very \u200dstrict eye on their new cars because EV fires are extremely difficult to put out\u200c and burn hotter than gas car fires.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Tanner Morgan with the Grand Prairie Fire Department near Dallas\u2063 told\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/firefighters-electric-vehicle-fires-present-new-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News \u200bNation<\/a><a>  last year \u200cthat\u2063 fire departments are not properly \u200bequipped to deal\u2064 with EV fires.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The firefighter \u2062went on to say that a gas-powered car typically takes less than \u200b1,000 \u200bgallons \u200cof water to douse, but EVs are a bigger problem. When an electric vehicle catches on fire, firemen \u2062are faced with\u2063 a \u200d\u201cthermal runaway,\u201d he said. These fires take 3,000 gallons\u2063 \u2014 maybe more\u200c \u2014 to douse them, experts\u2063 say.<\/p>\n<p>EV fires are breaking out all across the country, too.\u2063 In May, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/self-driving-ev-catches-fire-may-take-weeks-put-look-firefighters-put\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KSAZ-TV<\/a> reported that a self-driving electric car burst into flames inside\u200c a building\u2064 located in Phoenix, Arizona, causing thousands in damage.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in\u2063 February, and\u2063 also in Arizona, Scottsdale\u200d authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hazmat-crews-called-tesla-catches-fire-towed-not-even-worst-part\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that a Tesla that crashed into a building nearly burnt\u200c the place \u2064down when the battery\u200d pack caught fire. The biggest problem for firefighters in this case \u2064is that the battery fueled a second fire\u2063 after they thought they had already put\u200b it out.<\/p>\n<p>The month before that, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-catches-fire-dead-night-inside-garage-just-christmas-spreads-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla caught fire<\/a> sitting in its owner\u2019s garage in the dead of night only a few days after Christmas. The Tesla fire destroyed the EV, the garage, and another car \u2064in that garage, and it damaged the home, too.<\/p>\n<p>Another Tesla fire \u200cwas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-repeatedly-bursts-flames-interstate-even-fire-crews-seemingly-extinguish-blaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sparked<\/a> \u200bon Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania when the\u2063 EV burst into flames on the side of the road in November of last year. Firefighters were met with the same problem as the Arizona firemen noted above when the huge battery in the car kept reigniting the\u2062 fire\u200d over and over again after firefighters thought they had doused \u200dit.<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t just cars, either. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/e-bike-scooter-battery-fire-safety-5db87ea6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> recently noted, electric scooters and e-bikes are also prone to these unexpected\u200d and destructive fires.<\/p>\n<p>This is an issue that few EV owners are warned about, but it is one that is cropping up over and\u200b over again.
