At\u200d the\u200c age of \u200b98, Speranza&#8217;s remarkable journey came to\u200d an end, \u2063leaving behind\u2063 a legacy that \u200bwill forever be\u200c etched in history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/world-war-ii-hero-famous-for-airborne-beer-dead-at-98\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speranza<\/a> was not just any \u2063soldier; \u2063he was a kid from Hell&#8217;s Kitchen who answered the call of duty and enlisted in the \u2062Army. He was \u200done of the few American soldiers to set foot inside Hitler&#8217;s infamous &#8220;Eagle&#8217;s Nest&#8221; in\u200b Berchtesgaden. Witnessing Hitler&#8217;s plans\u2064 for\u200b global domination alongside\u200c Italy \u200cand Japan, Speranza understood the\u2063 true significance of the war he fought.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;If anybody\u200d ever doubted why \u2063we\u200d had to fight that war,\u200d there it was on the \u200dwall,&#8221; he \u2062said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After his discharge from the Army in 1946, Speranza pursued \u200da\u200d career as a history teacher. He remained deeply connected to Bastogne, returning for anniversaries and memorial events throughout the years. In fact, even at the\u200c age of 98, he celebrated his birthday \u2064with a tandem jump from the historic &#8220;Tico Belle&#8221;\u200d plane.<\/p>\n<p>My encounter with PFC Vincent Speranza at the Brussels airport was a testament to his \u2063unwavering spirit.
