One of these amendments \u200bcompels schools to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-jersey-to-separate-sex-ed-classes-by-gender-identity-not-biological-sex\/\" title=\"New Jersey to divide sex ed classes based on gender identity, not biological sex.\">separate gender-specific sex \u2062ed classes based<\/a> on \u2062a student&#8217;s chosen \u200dgender identity.\u200b While combined sex ed classes are allowed, the\u200b department acknowledges that\u200d some lessons on &#8220;human sexuality&#8221; are conducted separately in developmentally appropriate sessions. This means that a biological male can attend sessions that \u200dpertain to\u200c biological females, and\u200b vice versa.<\/p>\n<p>This\u200b change, which passed by a narrow margin of one\u2064 vote,\u200d is\u200b the latest\u200d example of New Jersey&#8217;s\u2062 progressive approach to public education. Democratic governor Phil \u2063Murphy&#8217;s administration has been actively pursuing liberalization in the state&#8217;s \u2062education system. In fact, they have\u2063 even sued four districts that\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/study-finds-increased-availability-of-trans-kids-drugs-raises-suicide-risk\/\" title=\"Study Finds Increased Availability of \"Trans\" Kids Drugs Raises Suicide Risk\">require school officials<\/a> to inform parents when their child displays a \u200bchange in their\u2062 gender,\u200b a policy that Murphy believes compromises the privacy of LGBTQ+ students.<\/p>\n<p>The vote has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whitmer-appoints-ceo-who-brought-chinese-battery-company-to-michigan-to-powerful-state-board\/\" title=\"Whitmer Appoints CEO Who Brought Chinese Battery Company to Michigan to Powerful State Board\">sparked intense criticism<\/a>.\u200c Local residents who attended \u2064the meeting threatened to\u200c sue the department, while some state board members expressed concerns about\u200c the policy&#8217;s failure\u200c to protect young girls.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why are we \u2063protecting transgender kids when it comes\u2063 to \u200csex ed \u200cand dividing up the groups, but not protecting girls?&#8221; questioned the board&#8217;s vice president, Andrew Mulvihill. &#8220;Girls are a\u2062 protected class, right?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The \u2062state board has not responded to requests \u200cfor comment regarding the standards.<\/p>\n<p>This is not \u200dthe first time New Jersey \u200chas made\u200c controversial changes to\u200b its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/america-has-more-transgender-youth-than-ever-study-says\/\" title=\"America Has More Transgender Youth Than Ever, Study Says\">sex ed standards<\/a>. Last\u200c year, the state implemented curriculum \u2063changes that introduced concepts of sex and gender\u200c at earlier grades. The new\u200d standards also include instruction on\u2062 more mature and explicit sex concepts for \u2063older students.<\/p>\n<p>Local school districts have\u2063 60 days to implement equity plans that\u200c align with \u2063the \u2062new state standards. \u2063Failure to implement the changes could\u2063 result in sanctions, including the suspension, termination, or refusal of continued\u200b federal or state financial assistance. Previously,\u200c districts had 180 days to implement equity changes, but New Jersey has accelerated \u2062the timeframe to ensure\u200b that inequitable practices are not in \u200bplace for up to\u200c six \u2063months.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey&#8217;s Department of Education has mandated that K-12 schools offering separate sex education classes must now divide them based on gender identity rather than biological sex.
