But when you talk \u2064to \u2064them privately, they say, &#8216;Oh man, I\u200d really really\u2063 like Gov. DeSantis. I really think he&#8217;s \u2062in\u2063 a good spot. I really think \u200dhe might give us a \u200bbetter shot\u200c in \u200dthe general [election]. And he can serve eight\u200b years \u2014 all these things.\u200b But I just don&#8217;t know about coming out against\u2063 Trump,'&#8221; Roy said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Roy emphasized that this sentiment is shared by citizens, activists, and members of \u200bCongress. He pointed to a viral exchange \u200bduring DeSantis&#8217;s\u2063 trip to \u2064South Carolina, where a hardcore Trump supporter expressed her admiration for the Florida governor.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Roy said, &#8220;That\u2064 is exactly what I&#8217;m hearing \u2062across the\u2062 country when\u2063 I talk \u2063to \u2062people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According \u2063to Roy, people are recognizing DeSantis as a winner\u2064 who is \u2063solid and\u200b conservative. Roy emphasized\u200b the need for \u2064a candidate who can run for a second\u2062 term, as one term is not enough to accomplish\u2064 everything.<\/p>\n<p>When \u2063asked about DeSantis&#8217;s ability\u200c to chip \u2063away \u2064at Trump&#8217;s significant \u200blead in the polls, Roy acknowledged that it \u200bwould take time. He \u2062highlighted\u200d the media advantage that Trump currently holds but noted that DeSantis is holding steady in the\u2062 polls and\u2063 gaining strong numbers in\u2064 early \u200cprimary and caucus \u200dstates.<\/p>\n<p>Roy stressed \u200bthe\u200c importance of being on the ground, working hard, and earning support. He also \u2062mentioned \u2062a decrease in\u200c the number of people planning\u200d to vote for Trump and an increase in those planning to oppose him.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding Trump&#8217;s legal troubles,\u2062 Roy expressed\u2064 the need\u2062 for a \u2063fresh \u2063perspective and highlighted DeSantis&#8217;s track record of success.
