Ohio,\u200b where\u2063 the governorship, \u200bstate \u200blegislature, secretary of state\u2019s office,\u200d and attorney general\u2019s office are controlled by Republicans, is no exception.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Current\u2064 state law requires a simple majority, 50 percent plus \u2063one, for \u200bvoter-proposed constitutional\u200d amendments\u200b to be ratified. \u2064Issue 1, which Ohio voters\u200c will \u200dsettle on Aug. 8, ensures that the state\u2019s governing document may \u2062not be so \u200dflippantly modified.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bigger Than One Ballot Measure<\/h2>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s special election is \u2062an explicit attempt by the state \u2063GOP to prevent an outsider\u200d operation\u2063 like the one executed in Kansas in 2022 from significantly changing Ohio\u2019s political landscape on abortion, parental rights, and even guns, which \u200cCleveland Mayor Justin Bibb has \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1YHVtS-pEhU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">already promised<\/a> to target \u200cvia ballot measure.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2062 Kansas,\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/01\/out-of-state-democrats-pay-millions-to-influence-kansas-election-because-abortion-is-on-the-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">out-of-state<\/a> \u200b donors and special interest groups that opposed a\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-ohio-voters-to-decide-how-easily-theyll-let-pro-abortion-interest-groups-change-their-constitution-2\/\" title=\"Ohio voters will determine the level of ease for pro-abortion interest groups to amend their constitution.\">homegrown pro-life amendment raised millions<\/a> to expand\u2063 Midwestern abortion operations.\u200b Their deliberately <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/03\/deception-drove-kansans-to-vote-down-pro-life-value-them-both-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deceptive<\/a> practices led voters to \u2063reject a\u2063 proposal \u2062that\u200c would have declared there is no \u200cconstitutional\u200b right in Kansas to abortion, taxpayer-funded or\u200b otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio voters are <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/05\/leftist-push-to-disenfranchise-parents-in-ohio-riddled-with-deception\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">already facing<\/a> their \u2064first hurdle in a similar battle.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>National activist organizations like the <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.com\/blog\/war-on-parents-the-aclus-fight-against-parental-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ACLU<\/a>, Planned\u200b Parenthood, and various LGBT groups banded together earlier this year to add\u2062 a ballot proposal that would enshrine abortion up until birth \u2063in the state \u200cconstitution, as well as override parental consent laws for minors seeking irreversible \u2063gender experiments.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The deliberately vague\u200b proposal would decree that \u201cevery individual has a right\u201d to \u201creproductive decisions\u201d regardless of age\u200c or trimester. \u200cAdvocates \u2063and their <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/createdequalorg\/status\/1656374041211555854?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">petitioner<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ProtectWomenOH\/status\/1656288294689206274?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pawns<\/a> promise \u2063abortions \u201cmay be prohibited after fetal viability,\u201d but all a woman needs to get around such\u2064 a law,\u200b thanks to the proposal\u2019s generous \u2063language, is a doctor\u2019s opinion that she needs an\u200d abortion for the sake of her \u201chealth,\u201d which is left open to interpretation.<\/p>\n<p>In February, an attorney for the ACLU\u2064 of Ohio, a member of the euphemistically-named\u2062 Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom \u2062(ORF) coalition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statenews.org\/government-politics\/2023-03-15\/foes-of-planned-ohio-abortion-amendment-launch-effort-to-discourage-voters-from-signing-petitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">confirmed<\/a> that if \u2062their\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leftist-push-to-disenfranchise-parents-in-ohio-riddled-with-deception\/\" title=\"Ohio parents face a deceptive leftist effort to strip them of their voting rights.\">constitutional amendment passes<\/a>, laws requiring parents to consent before \u2064their teen daughter gets an abortion would not necessarily be enforced.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Unite for\u2064 Reproductive \u2064&#038; Gender Equity, another member of the ORF coalition and \u200cproud supporter of <a href=\"https:\/\/urge.org\/about\/mission-and-values\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201csex-positive, gender-expansive, \u200dand abortion positive\u201d<\/a> policies,\u200c also openly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/URGE_org\/status\/1278404001818501120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opposes parental consent legislation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ballot proposal\u200c won\u2019t be up for a vote until November but is directly intertwined with the\u200b special election next week.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Battle for Ohio<\/h2>\n<p>Ohio Republicans recognize the long-term consequences a proposal like the \u2064one scheduled to \u2064appear on the\u2064 ballot in November would have for their \u200cstate and constituents, so \u200bthey passed a resolution in May that asked voters to decide this month if constitutional amendments should require \u2064a \u200csupermajority \u2014 a \u206460 percent threshold vote \u2014\u2063 to be ratified.<\/p>\n<p>Issue \u20621 also asks voters to sign off on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/globalassets\/elections\/2023\/spec\/issuereport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201celevating the standards\u201d<\/a> for constitutional amendments by \u2063requiring petitions \u201cbe signed \u2063by at least five percent\u2064 of the electors \u2064of each \u200bcounty based on the \u2063total\u200d vote in\u2062 the county\u201d for \u2064the\u200d latest gubernatorial election\u200d and \u2064banning the\u2062 addition of signatures to a petition\u200b after submission to the \u200cOhio secretary of state.<\/p>\n<p>For their efforts to protect their elections from external forces, the GOP government \u2063was smeared\u2062 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/opinion\/editorials\/2023\/03\/30\/why-would-willy-nilly-august-special-election-be-a-betrayal-to-ohio-voters\/70059689007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local<\/a> papers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/04\/22\/abortion-ohio-constitution-amendment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate media<\/a> outlets,\u200c and the groups touting \u2063the pro-abortion and gender\u2062 ideology proposal. Planned Parenthood activist\u200d and\u2064 ORF chair Lauren Blauvelt went\u200c so far as to \u2062accuse lawmakers of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/opinion\/columns\/guest\/2023\/05\/19\/ohio-august-2023-special-election-blocking-abortion-democracy-planned-parenthood-citizen-initiated\/70229746007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cworking overtime to dismantle democracy as\u2062 we know \u200dit.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Intrastate polling yields conflicting data on\u2063 how\u200b Ohioans plan to vote on Issue 1. \u200bYet even the\u200d competing results \u2064of polls \u200bfrom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onu.edu\/northern-poll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ohio Northern University<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/07\/19\/ohio-issue-1-poll-finds-most-ohio-voters-oppose-august-ballot-issue\/70383816007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">USA Today\/Suffolk University<\/a>, the latter of which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/opinion\/columns\/guest\/2023\/08\/02\/august-8-election-why-are-poll-results-about-issue-1-so-different\/70502224007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criticized<\/a> for overinflating opposition to \u2063Issue 1, both acknowledge \u200cthat a significant portion of voters were still undecided on the issue in the weeks preceding the election.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life \u2062and pro-parent groups in the state who have a vested \u200cinterest in the November ballot proposal capitalized\u2062 on\u2063 this gap\u200c by\u2062 rolling out <a href=\"https:\/\/protectwomenohio.com\/2023\/08\/protect-women-ohio-launches-5-5-million-ad-buy-in-support-of-issue-1-during-final-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">millions of dollars\u2062 of ads<\/a> that expose the leftist campaign to\u200d transform Ohio\u2019s\u2064 constitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe secret is out: Ohio has some of the weakest requirements in the country for passing constitutional amendments and greedy, out-of-state special interest \u200dgroups \u200bwith deep pockets know it,\u201d Protect \u200cWomen Ohio board member Molly Smith said \u200cin a statement. \u201cThat makes Ohio a prime target for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dont-be-fooled-the-left-is-gaslighting-on-the-economy\/\" title=\"Don\u2019t Be Fooled\u2014the Left Is Gaslighting On The Economy\">radical special interest groups<\/a>, like the ACLU, to parachute into the state and \u200bstrip parents of their rights. Enough is enough.
