These elections will determine \u200bwhether the\u200c state will adopt an amendment to prohibit state \u2063intervention in \u200babortion and reproductive rights, including access to contraception.<\/p>\n<h3>Implications for the Future<\/h3>\n<p>The first referendum\u2064 in this series is\u200b set to\u200b take place\u200b on Tuesday,\u200d and \u2063its outcome will have significant implications for the success of the abortion amendment on \u200dthe November ballot. This amendment aims to prevent the\u2064 state legislature from interfering with or discriminating\u2063 against obtaining an abortion or\u200d reproductive healthcare.<\/p>\n<h3>Funding and Support<\/h3>\n<p>Mid-year\u2064 financial reports released this week\u2063 reveal that Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom has\u200d raised approximately $8.5 million from various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-is-waging-radical-pro-abortion-lawfare-on-peaceful-pro-lifers\/\" title=\"NY is aggressively using the law to target peaceful pro-life advocates.\">pro-abortion\u2062 groups<\/a>, including Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio, the\u200b American Civil Liberties Union of \u2063Ohio,\u200b and Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity\u2064 (URGE). The majority of these funds have been used to\u200c certify the citizen signature results to officially \u200dplace the \u2064amendment on the \u200cNovember ballot.<\/p>\n<p>On\u2064 the other side, Ohio Physicians \u2062for Reproductive Rights, a smaller pro-abortion group, raised $1.16 million, with 92.7%\u200b of the donations coming from \u200cOhio residents.<\/p>\n<h3>Controversy and Lawsuits<\/h3>\n<p>Anti-abortion advocates argue that the amendment&#8217;s broad language\u2062 would invalidate several existing\u200b state \u2063laws, such as parental consent and safety protocols for abortions. Abortion rights advocates have filed a lawsuit against Secretary of \u200cState Frank LaRose, claiming that the amendment\u200d violates state statute by not disclosing which \u200dlaws it would invalidate if passed in November.<\/p>\n<h3>Opposition and Campaigns<\/h3>\n<p>Leading the opposition to the amendment is Protect Women Ohio (PWO), which raised a\u2064 total of $9.74 million in 2023. PWO received a \u2062significant donation\u200c of $6.14 million from Susan B. Anthony \u200bPro-Life America and $900,000 from\u200b the Catholic dioceses of Ohio. Their \u2062campaign expenses have primarily focused on\u2062 television and radio advertisements urging voters to increase\u200c the difficulty of amending \u2062the state constitution to protect against out-of-state\u2062 political influence.<\/p>\n<p>PWO&#8217;s most recent advertisement campaign, costing $5.5 million, will\u200c run until \u200dthe end of the special\u2063 election on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h3>Ohio as a Test Case<\/h3>\n<p>Stephen Billy,\u200c vice president for state affairs at \u200dSBA \u2062Pro-Life America, stated that\u2064 Ohio serves as \u2064a test case for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/millions-in-out-of-state-donations-funneled-into-ohio-votes-on-abortion\/\" title=\"Ohio votes on abortion receive millions in out-of-state donations.\">national-level pro-abortion groups<\/a>. \u2064These groups \u200bare\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/massachusetts-gov-charlie-baker-lifting-school-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker Lifting School Mask Mandate\">making similar moves<\/a> to vote in abortion \u200bamendments to state constitutions across the \u200bcountry, recognizing the challenges\u200b they face in Republican-controlled states like Ohio.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Ohio has some of \u200bthe weakest requirements in the\u200b country for passing constitutional amendments, and\u2062 greedy, out-of-state special interest groups \u200cwith deep pockets know \u200cit,&#8221; said Molly Smith, a\u200d board member of Protect Women Ohio. &#8220;That makes Ohio a prime target for radical special \u200dinterest groups, like the ACLU, to parachute into the state and strip parents of their rights.
