(Photo via REUTERS\/Carlo\u2064 Allegri\/File Photo) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/noah-herring\">Noah Herring<\/a><br \/>5:10 PM \u2013 Wednesday, August 2,\u2063 2023<\/h2>\n<p>The House Select\u200c Committee on Strategic Competition between the \u2063United States and the Chinese \u200bCommunist Party (CCP) \u200dhave announced\u200c that they are launching an investigation into BlackRock, \u2063the world\u2019s\u2062 largest \u2062asset manager,\u00a0and MSCI, one\u200d of \u200dthe world\u2019s largest providers of index funds. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The committee reportedly sent letters to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink and \u2063MSCI CEO Henry Fernandez on Monday notifying them that it is launching an investigation regarding their affairs with certain Chinese \u2062companies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cOur review has shown that, as\u2062 a direct \u2063result of decisions made by MSCI, these Americans \u200bare now unwittingly funding PRC companies that develop and build weapons \u200bfor the People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA)\u2014the PRC\u2019s\u200b military\u2014and advance the CCP\u2019s stated \u2063mission of technological supremacy,\u201d wrote the Select Committee\u2019s Chairman, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.), and its ranking member, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter further\u2064 indicated that by sending large amounts of money to companies \u200blinked to the Chinese military and human rights abusers, BlackRock and MSCI are\u200c \u201cexacerbating an already \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/serious-concerns-gop-leaders-demand-answers-over-russians-illegally-crossing-americas-southern-border\/\" title=\"\u2018Serious Concerns\u2019: GOP Leaders Demand Answers Over Russians Illegally Crossing America\u2019s Southern Border\">significant national security threat<\/a> and undermining American values.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u200ccommittee claimed that BlackRock invested more than $429 million across five funds linked to Chinese companies that \u201cact directly against the interests of the United States.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>They also found at least 40 companies listed on the MSCI indexes that \u200bare \u2062on governmental \u201cred-flag\u201d lists.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe majority of \u200cour clients\u2019 investments in China are through index funds, and we are one of 16 asset managers \u200ccurrently offering \u200dU.S.\u2063 index funds\u2062 investing in Chinese companies,\u201d BlackRock said in a statement. \u201cWith \u2063all investments in\u200b China and markets around \u2064the world, BlackRock complies with all applicable US government laws.
