He emphasized that any indictment against the former president must be backed by \u200cthe\u2064 strongest evidence in American\u200b history, \u2064a &#8220;smoking gun.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The four<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-maintains-his-innocence-says-bragg-has-no-case-against-him\/\" title=\"Trump Maintains His Innocence, Says Bragg Has \u2018No Case\u2019 Against Him\">-count indictment brought<\/a> against Trump on Tuesday is deemed &#8220;flawed&#8221; and \u2063&#8221;speculative&#8221; by\u200d Dershowitz. He \u2064argues that it falls \u200bshort of \u2063the &#8220;Nixon standard&#8221; set\u200b during the Watergate scandal when Nixon&#8217;s Republican\u2064 allies turned against him.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an \u200bofficial proceeding, obstructing an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. \u200cHe is expected to\u2064 be arraigned in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal \u2062defends Smith&#8217;s case,\u200b stating that the\u200c special \u2063counsel\u200c was chosen as an\u200b independent, career prosecutor.
