For \u200cthe first \u2063time in\u200b 15 years, the state Supreme Court has shifted to Democratic control.<\/p>\n<p>Protasiewicz campaigned on crucial issues such\u2063 as abortion rights and criticizing the Republican-drawn redistricting maps. Her victory puts an end to the conservative hold on\u2063 the court, as she replaces retiring conservative\u200d Justice Pat Roggensack, who served on the court for 20 years, including six as chief justice. A Wisconsin Supreme Court justice&#8217;s term is 10\u2064 years.<\/p>\n<h3>Commitment to Protecting Freedoms and Ensuring Equal Justice<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We all want \u200ba Wisconsin\u200b where our freedoms are\u2062 protected,&#8221; Protasiewicz emphasized during the ceremony. \u200c&#8221;We want a Wisconsin with a fair and impartial Supreme Court. \u2064We all want to live in communities that are safe. And we all want a Wisconsin where everyone is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-ag-launches-police-shooting-investigation-teams-to-probe-officer-involved-killings\/\" title=\"California AG Launches \u2018Police Shooting Investigation Teams\u2019 To Probe Officer-Involved Killings\">afforded equal justice<\/a> under the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Under \u2062conservative leadership, the \u2062court came close\u200d to overturning President Joe Biden\u2019s slim victory in the state in 2020. However, even without Wisconsin&#8217;s\u2062 10 \u200belectoral votes, Biden would have still secured the election with enough <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/warp-speed-advisor-expects-vaccine-to-ship-mid-december-herd-immunity-by-may\/\" title=\"\u2018Warp Speed\u2019 advisor expects vaccine to ship mid-December, \u2018herd immunity\u2019 by May\">electoral college votes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Anticipated Challenges and Pending Cases<\/h3>\n<p>Heading into the 2024 \u2063election cycle, challenges to the \u2063state\u2019s abortion ban, Republican-drawn congressional district maps, and \u200cvoting rules are expected. The court already has a pending case challenging a pre-Civil War era abortion ban, and a new lawsuit challenging the Republican-drawn congressional district maps\u200c is anticipated \u2062to be filed in the coming \u200cweeks.<\/p>\n<p>Protasiewicz, a former circuit court judge, defeated her conservative opponent Dan Kelly in April.
