While the top contender for the \u2064Republican presidential nomination is targeted by\u200b an array of political witch\u2063 hunts, Minority Leader Mitch\u200b McConnell and most of GOP Senate \u200cleadership are missing in action, again.<\/p>\n<h2>Trump Faces \u2064Third Indictment \u2063Amidst Political Witch Hunts<\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, \u200dTrump was handed a third indictment as he leads the crowded race in the Republican presidential primary. Special \u2064Counsel \u200dJack Smith <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/biden-delivers-another-blow-against-his-primary-political-rival-with-latest-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charged<\/a> \u2064the former president\u200d with\u200b a\u200c series of crimes\u2062 related to the Jan. 6,\u2063 2021, Capitol \u2064riot and Trump\u2019s objections to the administration of the 2020 election \u2014 objections like those Democrats have <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/13\/second-j6-hearing-criminalizes-republicans-for-election-objections-after-democrats-made-them-for-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">made<\/a> for \u2062decades. Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mont-attorney-gen-austin-knudsen-most-critical-race-theory-activities-are-illegal\/\" title=\"Mont. Attorney Gen. Austin Knudsen: most critical race theory activities are illegal\">violate civil rights<\/a>, obstructing an official proceeding, and conspiring to do so. The fact that Trump explicitly ordered demonstrators to protest \u201cpeacefully,\u201d or that the barriers were breached before the\u2062 president was even finished speaking, was apparently lost on federal prosecutors. Trump could have spent the \u200dday talking about\u200b the weather and \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/02\/trump-could-have-spent-jan-6-talking-about-the-weather-and-still-would-have-been-indicted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">still<\/a> would\u200c have been indicted \u2014 unlike, say, the current Democrat occupant \u200bof the White House.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1951345969\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2035bc34a47fc135ab19cf3acaf58121 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2035bc34a47fc135ab19cf3acaf58121\"><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>House Republicans were quick to condemn the outright weaponization of law enforcement against the regime\u2019s \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/6-reasons-dojs-get-trump-documents-case-is-seriously-flawed\/\" title=\"6 Flaws in DOJ's 'Get Trump' Documents Case\">primary political opponent<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>On\u2064 Twitter, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy accused the Justice Department of unleashing new indictments to protect the president from bad publicity. After outlining a series of\u2064 recent revelations in the Biden family corruption scandals, McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1686504890137235456?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chastised<\/a> the DOJ for its \u201cattempt to distract from \u200dthe news and attack the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><\/figure>\n<p>The suspicious <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/greg_price11\/status\/1686492127042113536?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">timeline<\/a> \u200c of \u200cthe\u2063 various Trump \u200dindictments corroborates the speaker\u2019s \u200bpoint. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><\/figure>\n<p>House Republican\u2064 Conference Chair Elise Stefanik also released a statement that accused the DOJ of political interference. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8914aa42a9fc00805341a963f920c942 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8914aa42a9fc00805341a963f920c942\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s\u2063 sham\u200b indictment of \u2063Donald Trump is yet\u200d another \u2026 desperate attempt \u2064to \u2064distract attention away from the mounting evidence\u2064 of Joe Biden\u2019s direct involvement in his family\u2019s illegal \u2062influence peddling scheme \u2013 \u200bone of the greatest political corruption scandals in history,\u201d Stefanik \u200bsaid. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/evidence-of-biden-burisma-corruption-is-overwhelming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Evidence Of Biden Burisma Corruption Is Overwhelming<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senate GOP leadership, on the other hand, was once again largely silent as the 2024 Republican \u200dfrontrunner was hit with the latest of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2023\/us\/trump-investigations-charges-indictments.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">78 charges<\/a> across three investigations. More are likely on the way as prosecutors in Georgia \u200bwrap \u200bup their own probe into allegations of misconduct surrounding the 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>Republican Conference Chair John\u2063 Barrasso of Wyoming \u2062was the exception, <a href=\"https:\/\/cowboystatedaily.com\/2023\/08\/01\/wyoming-republicans-outraged-over-trumps-jan-6-indictment\/\">blasting<\/a> the\u2062 \u201ctwo-tiered system of justice\u201d \u2064and \u200bPresident Biden\u2019s willingness to \u201cweaponize the justice system against his political opponent.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-17ab879b7a05a3b5000fec6e82a962b1 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-17ab879b7a05a3b5000fec6e82a962b1\"><\/div>\n<p>McConnell\u2019s\u200c silence on lynchpin issues has become a defining component of\u2062 his tenure in\u2063 the upper chamber. While the GOP minority leader \u2064was\u2064 instrumental \u2062in reshaping the federal judiciary with conservative appointments, Senate Majority Leader\u200b Chuck Schumer and President Biden had already matched the lifetime judicial confirmations \u2062McConnell and Trump\u2063 secured in their first two years by October \u200b2022, \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/10\/13\/mcconnell-schumer-judicial-appointments-midterms-00061487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to Politico. Democrats were granted two more years to reclaim the\u200b judiciary after Republicans under McConnell blew last fall\u2019s opportunity to take over the upper chamber in what was supposed\u2062 to be a \u201cred wave\u201d year. \u2063McConnell <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/11\/10\/the-case-against-mitch-mcconnell-for-leader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sabotaged<\/a> the effort by redirecting funds from\u200c competitive races in\u200b key swing states to a contest\u2064 between two Republicans in Alaska. <\/p>\n<p>When Trump was first indicted, by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in March, McConnell refused \u200bto condemn the overt weaponization of law enforcement. Even Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, who is\u200c the only Republican senator to back \u200bTrump\u2019s impeachment twice, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/06\/even-mitt-romney-condemns-trump-indictment-while-mitch-mcconnell-is-mia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blasted<\/a> the Manhattan DA. <\/p>\n<p>In \u200chis first remarks about the weaponized Justice Department after that first indictment, the \u200dRepublican \u200cSenate \u2062leader <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/04\/19\/after-fbi-raids-republicans-last-president-mitch-mcconnell-wants-to-increase-doj-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called for\u2064 rewarding<\/a> partisan political prosecutions with more funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/evidence-mounts-that-capitol-breach-was-pre-planned-eroding-incitement-allegation-in-trump-impeachment-trial\/\" title=\"Evidence Mounts that Capitol Breach Was Pre-Planned, Eroding Incitement Allegation in Trump Impeachment Trial\">federal law enforcement agencies<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>When Trump was indicted for a second time in June \u200cover the alleged retention of classified documents, McConnell again \u200cwas nowhere \u200dto be found. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Trump\u200c indictment, Senate GOP\u200d leaders silent while top House Republicans vow payback,\u201d read\u2063 a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/06\/09\/politics\/republicans-congress-reactions-trump-indictment\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">headline<\/a> from CNN. <\/p>\n<p>McConnell isn\u2019t just failing to defend the \u2062Republican presidential\u200c frontrunner against partisan lawfare, he\u2019s also failing to go \u200don the offensive about the myriad \u2064scandals that plague the incumbent president. McConnell has been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/republicans-deserve-a-senate-leader-willing-to-defend-their-interests-over-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more \u2063vocal<\/a> about a freshman Wisconsin lawmaker shouting at a group of teenagers than the revelations surrounding the Biden \u200dfamily business deals.\u2062 Last week, McConnell <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/4119381-senate-republicans-see-biden-impeachment-as-fraught-with-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declined to comment<\/a> at all\u200c on House Republicans\u2019 impeachment push over the apparent bribery scheme between\u2064 Biden and Ukrainian oligarchs. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-82d8d657ca8a4179f8699ffd4de61c90 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-82d8d657ca8a4179f8699ffd4de61c90\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican voters are disappointed with their incumbent leaders in the upper chamber.
