She is described as an EV ambassador for Acterra, a San Francisco\u2062 environmentalist non-profit. Goforth wrote about a recent EV road trip in Acterra\u2019s\u200b blog, which is literally called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acterra.org\/blog\/2023\/7\/25\/all-electric-road-trip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Spin<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the post, Goforth writes about taking her Tesla \u200cModel Y around rural \u2064California. \u201cWe had been gone nine days and traveled nearly 1000 fossil fuel-free miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goforth and her husband traveled to the Carrizo Plain National Monument, a remote area \u200bin San Luis Obispo County. The region did not have services like food, gas stations or EV charging stations.<\/p>\n<p>Goforth used\u200b internet resources in advance to design a route with charging stations along the \u200bway to and from the destination.<\/p>\n<p>The California Valley Lodge was the only motel near the Carrizo Plain, within 20 miles. The owner of the motel also \u2062owned a closed \u2062gas station that still had \u200celectrical power, where he let the couple charge their Tesla.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt was only \u200da\u200b standard\u200c 120V outlet, so we would be trickle charging, not supercharging, \u2062but that was sufficient to more\u2064 than\u200b replace, overnight, whatever \u2064energy we used on \u2062our daily \u2063excursions around the Monument. I loved the poetic justice of recharging our\u200c EV at a defunct gas\u200b station!\u201d Goforth wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Goforth is very upbeat,\u2063 but still, it sounds \u200dlike a headache. According \u2062to\u200b the \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/rural\/ev\/toolkit\/ev-basics\/charging-speeds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Transportation<\/a>, a \u2062Level 1 charger \u2064like they used could take 40 to 50 hours to\u200c charge an EV to 80 percent power.<\/p>\n<p>Potential difficulties were glossed over. Goforth\u200b had the luxury of finding a cooperative property owner. They had limited daily driving needs, and plenty of time for recharging that even still just basically recouped their local trips. The average traveler trying \u2062to enjoy a vacation might not be so blessed with such easy time, distance and resource \u2064requirements, especially in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-drone-captures-migrants-carrying-drugs-across-border-into-texas\/\" title=\"WATCH: Drone Captures Migrants Carrying Drugs Across Border into Texas\">wide-open spaces<\/a> of the west.<\/p>\n<p>For all her glee at not using \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-knows-he-messed-up-on-fracking-at-debate-and-is-now-doing-damage-control-the-daily-wire\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Knows He Messed Up On Fracking At Debate And Is Now Doing Damage Control | The Daily Wire\">fossil fuels<\/a>, Goforth ignored how much\u200b of\u200c our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gm-official-bragged-electric-car-reporter-forced-admit-charging-electricity-comes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electricity<\/a> is generated \u2063by using coal and natural \u2063gas.<\/p>\n<p>Other major problems with EVs did not come \u2062up during the trip.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the Tesla did not hit a piece of road debris and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-repeatedly-bursts-flames-interstate-even-fire-crews-seemingly-extinguish-blaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">catch fire<\/a>, the way one \u2064did last year in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Once an EV starts burning, it is very difficult to extinguish the flames. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tesla-catches-fire-takes-25000-gallons-water-42-minutes-firefighters-extinguish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lithium batteries<\/a> burn until their power is gone, and putting them out can take more than ten times the amount of water that a traditional vehicle fire would require.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t cold, so Goforth did not \u2063have to choose between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-shows-brutal-ev-road-trip-can-forced-bundle-instead-using-heater-car\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">freezing<\/a> or running \u200dthe battery \u2063down quicker by using\u2062 the heater in the car.<\/p>\n<p>If the battery drains, \u200bEVs can \u2063become dysfunctional. A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/journalists-go-electric-truck-nightmare-completely-run-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> dead battery<\/a> \u200dmight mean the charging port can\u2019t even be opened, or \u2063that the \u2064parking brake can\u2019t be \u200breleased \u2063so the car can be towed.<\/p>\n<p>Challenges like these \u200ddemonstrate\u2063 why EVs are not ready to\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-to-keep-nuclear-plant-open-due-to-energy-grid-failures\/\" title=\"California to Keep Nuclear Plant Open Due to Energy Grid Failures\">replace internal combustion engines<\/a> at this time.<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u200c the government\u2019s concerted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-americans-send-biden-unmistakable-message-massive-electric-vehicle-push\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">efforts,<\/a> electric vehicles should not \u200dbe pushed on the public.\u200b Not everyone lives in a huge city with tons\u200c of fast chargers or access to one at their homes.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder Ford has lost \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ford-hit-massively-motor-company-set-lose-much-3-billion-evs-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$4.5 billion<\/a> on\u200d their EV \u2062business.
