The \u2062project aims\u2062 to create a\u200c global community focused on identity and finance.<\/p>\n<p>Despite\u2062 concerns from privacy \u2063campaigners, people around the \u2062world have eagerly signed up for Worldcoin, willingly having their faces scanned by \u2062the shiny spherical &#8220;orb.&#8221; Over 2.2 million individuals have already \u200bjoined\u2062 during the trial period over the past\u2064 two years. Data watchdogs in Britain, France, and \u2063Germany \u200dare \u2063currently investigating the project.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are on\u2063 a mission to build the largest financial and identity \u2062community possible,&#8221; said Ricardo Macieira, general manager for Europe at\u200b Tools\u2064 For Humanity, the company \u2062behind \u2064Worldcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Worldcoin recently raised \u2062$115 million in\u200b funding from venture \u200dcapital investors, including Blockchain Capital, a16z \u2062crypto, \u200bBain Capital\u2063 Crypto, and Distributed\u200c Global. With this funding, Worldcoin \u200cplans to continue expanding its\u2064 operations in Europe, Latin America, Africa, \u2064and \u2062other regions that are open to \u200dits services.<\/p>\n<p>Worldcoin&#8217;s website outlines various potential applications for\u2062 its technology, such \u2063as distinguishing humans\u2062 from artificial intelligence, enabling global democratic processes, and even \u200cpaving \u200dthe \u2064way for universal basic\u200d income. However, the realization \u2063of \u200cthese\u200c outcomes is not\u2064 guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>While many individuals \u200binterviewed\u2063 by Reuters \u2064expressed their interest in receiving\u200b the 25\u200c free\u200d Worldcoin tokens offered to verified users, \u2064Macieira emphasized \u200cthat \u200bthe company&#8217;s goal\u2063 is \u200bnot to generate universal basic \u200cincome itself.
