They don&#8217;t follow \u200bthrough.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Long the most loyal Democratic constituency, <span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200dblack <\/span>voters played a large\u200b role in rescuing Biden&#8217;s struggling 2020 presidential campaign in the South Carolina primary, and sending him to\u2063 the White House with\u200b Democrats in control of the Senate, thanks \u2064to further success in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>In return, many<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>voters expected Biden\u2062 and Democrats to push new federal protections against restrictive local voting laws, police\u200d and \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">criminal justice reform<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-not-considering-50k-in-student-loan-debt-relief\/\" title=\"Biden not considering K in student loan debt relief\">student loan debt relief<\/a> and economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>Many\u2062 of those efforts \u200bhave been blocked \u2062by Republicans, leaving Biden to ask voters to\u200c let him &#8220;finish this job,&#8221; with a second term, but with no clear \u2063path to get\u2062 these things \u200bdone.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Democrats&#8217; focus on LGBTQ and abortion\u2064 rights leaves \u200cvoters like \u200cMekonnen \u2064feeling alienated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m\u2062 probably getting turned away from the\u2064 left, \u200cjust because the Democrats are turning more left in my books,&#8221; he said, adding he wished Democrats spent more time on \u2062the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Polls and \u2063Reuters interviews show younger<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>voters \u2063and<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">men <\/span>of all ages are losing their \u200cfaith in Democrats, Biden and perhaps even the political process, just three\u2062 years after \u2064the U.S.&#8217;s biggest protests for racial justice\u200c and \u2063civil \u2062rights in a generation.<\/p>\n<p>A <em>New York Times<\/em>\/Siena <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/01\/upshot\/biden-trump-poll-2024.html\">poll<\/a> conducted \u200blast month suggests\u200d a 2024 matchup between Biden and Donald Trump would be closer than it was\u2063 in 2020, largely because Trump has made \u200c&#8221;gains among Black, Hispanic, male and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/arizona-dems-pressure-kyrsten-sinema-to-help-kill-the-filibuster\/\" title=\"Arizona Dems Pressure Kyrsten Sinema To Help Kill The Filibuster\">low-income voters<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The vast\u200b majority\u2064 of<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black\u2062 <\/span>voters, including<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> men<\/span>, are \u2064still\u200c expected to choose Biden\u200b over a Republican.<\/p>\n<p>But the \u200cquestion for Democrats is whether disillusioned<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>voters will turn out to the polls in large enough numbers in crucial cities, from Philadelphia to Atlanta, Milwaukee and Detroit to keep Biden in\u2062 the White \u200bHouse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Democrats need to understand that there is a growing population, especially with<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">men <\/span>who \u2064are reaching the\u200c point of being fed \u2064up with always\u2063 being pushed over and looked\u2062 over,&#8221; said\u2062 LeLann Evans, 33, a political campaign manager \u2064who is running as a write-in candidate for Nashville City Council.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats&#8217; failure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/theres-a-lot-of-pandering-fed-up-black-voters-could-cost-biden-the-2024-election\/\" title=\"Fed-up Black voters may cost Biden the 2024 election due to excessive pandering.\">secure widespread student loan \u2062relief<\/a> or legalize marijuana has been disappointing, \u2064Evans\u200c said, \u200cadding that\u2063 Republicans&#8217; more aggressive approach when\u200c they have power means they are \u200d&#8221;actually \u200dgetting things \u2063done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Turnout\u200b Drops<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-identified<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>Americans make up 14.2 percent of\u2064 the U.S. population, or 42.7 million \u2062people, a 30 percent\u2063 jump from 2000, Pew Research shows.<\/li>\n<li><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Black <\/span>voter turnout dropped by nearly\u2063 10 percentage points, from 51.7 percent in\u2064 the\u200b 2018\u200c midterm elections to \u206442 percent\u2062 in \u20632022, according to a Washington Post analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau&#8217;s\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-nev-gop-gubernatorial-candidates-leading-over-democrat-gov-sisolak\/\" title=\"Poll: Nev. GOP gubernatorial candidates leading over Democrat Gov. Sisolak\">survey released earlier<\/a> this year. White voter turnout slipped by only 1.5 points to \u206453.4 percent.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Black <\/span>voter turnout was down across the country in 2022. We saw it in the polls, the surveys, the \u2064exit polls and every way you could measure it,&#8221; said Michael McDonald, a politics professor at University of\u200b Florida.<\/li>\n<li><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Some <\/span>Democrats \u2062have also been \u2063disturbed by\u200c recent\u2062 polls \u2063showing that<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200c some b<\/span><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">lack <\/span>voters\u2063 are defecting\u2063 to Republicans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Economic Gains?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Democrats are favored by<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u2062black \u200b <\/span>voters \u2063who value \u200cabortion\u200c rights, voting rights and opposition to racism, says Terrance Woodbury, chief \u2063executive officer at\u2063 HIT Strategies.<\/li>\n<li>But that margin shrinks when it \u200ccomes to managing the economy.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;When you get to economic issues \u2063- economic security,\u200b inflation, job \u2064security &#8211; those 50 and 60 \u200cpoint gaps began to shrink to\u2063 near parity, where you have young<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200c Black <\/span>folks saying\u200b that Republicans are almost as good for them on the economy\u200b as Democrats are,&#8221; Woodbury said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Julian\u2063 Silas, 25, a<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black \u200c <\/span>investment research analyst from the Chicago area, said many of his friends and \u200cfamily are \u2062reexamining their politics and questioning just how \u200cmuch the loyalty\u200b of<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black\u200b <\/span>Americans to the Democratic Party \u200dbettered their lives, particularly\u2063 their economic standing.<\/p>\n<p>Every four years, Democratic candidates talk \u2063about increasing<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>wealth and closing the gap between<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>and white Americans, but \u2063&#8221;nothing actually really \u200dhappens,&#8221; Silas said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It seems like there&#8217;s things that\u2062 they talk about that seem good, that I can align \u200dwith, like student loan debt relief \u200bor\u200c home ownership and all these different\u200b things, but\u2064 maybe<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> some<\/span>times it doesn&#8217;t feel like it&#8217;s moving\u2064 fast enough,&#8221;\u200b Silas\u200d said.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200dblack \u200c <\/span>unemployment rate has fallen \u2063to historic lows under Biden, but \u2063hit \u2062a 10-month high in June, driven in large part by<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black \u200d <\/span>workers \u2062leaving the labor market.<\/p>\n<p><span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Black <\/span>families had 4.4 percent of total household \u200bwealth in the first\u200b quarter of \u200d2023, Federal Reserve data show, up \u200cslightly from 4.3 percent at the\u2063 beginning \u200bof 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Party\u200d has spent considerable time, money and resources to retain and expand the<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black\u2063 <\/span>vote, including \u2062mounting registration \u200bdrives in battleground states and \u200crecruiting<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>campaign staff.<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Kamala Harris, the first<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>person to hold that \u2062position and the highest U.S.<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>elected \u200cofficial, and Jaime Harrison, the\u2063 African-American chairman of the Democratic National Committee, attended this summer&#8217;s \u2064Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans and have lavished attention on \u200dhistorically<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> \u200cblack <\/span>colleges and universities \u2062and\u2062 media\u2064 outlets including<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>radio stations.<\/p>\n<p>Harris spoke\u2062 at the annual NAACP gathering on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As we\u200b head into the 2024 cycle, the \u2062DNC is doubling \u2062down on our commitment\u2064 to engaging<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> black <\/span>voters with meaningful and sustained investments to make sure they know\u200c how President Biden and Vice President Harris have delivered for them,&#8221; said\u200c Tracy King, the \u2062DNC&#8217;s director of\u200c outreach communications, in an emailed statement.<\/p>\n<p>For<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> some<\/span>, right now, that&#8217;s not enough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m kind of stuck \u200cwith Biden until<span data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\"> some<\/span>one else comes along,&#8221;
