Version: 4.0.47--><h2>A Robot Server Sparks \u200dControversy at a Rural Oregon Restaurant<\/h2>\n<p>A \u200crestaurant in rural Oregon\u200b has \u2063introduced a robot as a server out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/struggling-rural-restaurant-rolls-out-robot-server-and-sparks-major-backlash-no-thank-you\/\" title=\"Rural eatery introduces robot server, faces strong opposition: 'We decline'\">pure desperation amid<\/a> a staffing shortage, and not everyone is thrilled by the idea.<\/p>\n<p>One patron of The Cazadero in the community of Estacada\u200d said he\u200c would never return to the business\u200b after learning\u2062 some service encounters might \u200cbe impersonal, to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant\u2019s\u200d owner,\u200d Sherry Andrus, said \u200cshe bought a robot named Plato from a company \u2064called United Robotics \u2064Group \u2063because of inflation and an inability \u200bto find reliable employees.<\/p>\n<p>Plato, a so-called \u201ccobiot\u201d that\u2064 is filling in personnel\u2062 gaps, wears a funny look on his face but is adept\u200d at his job \u2014 bringing patrons their food.<\/p>\n<p>Andrus told Fox News her guests can sit down and request\u2063 a 100 percent personal \u200dexperience\u200d if they are weirded out by Plato.<\/p>\n<p>But\u200c with\u200c Oregon\u2019s $14.20 per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/under-trump-americans-have-seen-their-best-wage-growth-in-40-years\/\" title=\"Under Trump, Americans Have Seen Their Best Wage Growth In 40 Years\">hour minimum wage<\/a>, rising overhead, and difficulty\u200c finding good help \u2063in the\u2063 small city about 45 minutes\u200d away from Portland, she had \u2062no other option but to think outside the box.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200dMarch, Andrus traveled to Las Vegas for a bar and\u2062 restaurant expo with the\u2064 sole\u200c purpose of finding help \u200cin the\u2064 form of emerging technology\u200c to \u2064keep her \u2063business afloat.<\/p>\n<p>She shared her excitement about bringing Plato onto \u200cher staff with the network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love robots and\u200b what they can do,\u201d she said. \u201cI think they\u2019re kind of cute and kind of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When she introduced Plato to\u2063 residents\u200c of Estacada on her \u200dFacebook \u200cpage, some were less than thrilled.<\/p>\n<p>Given \u2062the human toll of automation, the backlash was so swift she turned off comments on her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-move-to-force-conspiracy-theorist-marjorie-taylor-greene-off-her-committee-assignments-report\/\" title=\"Democrats Move To Force Conspiracy Theorist Marjorie Taylor Greene Off Her Committee Assignments: Report\">social media pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But before that, one <em>former<\/em> Cazadero customer wrote, \u201cI will never go there again \u2026 NO THANK YOU\u2026 Get rid of this we [live] in\u200b a small a** town \u200cwhy in earth!?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of others shared similar sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>Andrus told Fox News\u2064 she\u200b was stunned by the responses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no clue that \u200cpeople would literally not want to come to the restaurant because I \u200chad a robot,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>But\u2063 Andrus ultimately put\u200d Plato to work, and\u2063 he has been accepted by many of\u200c her customers.<\/p>\n<p>One military \u2063veteran from the Vietnam War \u2062era told Fox News he enjoys the novelty of being served\u2064 by something that looks as though it could have come out of a science\u200c fiction \u2062film.<\/p>\n<p>A man named Roy said, \u201cI say\u200d \u2018Hi\u2019 to him every time he comes by. I know he can\u2019t answer, but\u2064 Mama told me to be polite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plato is also a hit\u2064 with\u200c children who visit Cazadero.<\/p>\n<p>But the bot doesn\u2019t always interfere with \u200chuman staffers who often choose to\u200d offer good, old-fashioned customer service to\u2063 earn their tips.<\/p>\n<p>But Plato has reportedly been\u200c helpful on occasion when\u200b the restaurant is shorthanded. \u200cAndrus is committed to keeping Plato on \u2063her \u200bstaff \u200cin spite \u200dof some of the backlash.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, who can blame a small business owner for doing everything in her power to keep \u200cher doors open? The\u2063 restaurant business is \u200dand always has \u200dbeen a tough one \u2014 even when the economy is strong.<\/p>\n<p>While no \u2064one wants to see anyone\u200b put \u200bout\u200c of a job by artificial intelligence or robotics, it sounds like Andrus simply did what she had to do.<\/p>\n<p>If working-age people in Estacada and \u200dnearby areas aren\u2019t willing to apply to join her\u200c staff, the \u200ctechnology is there to fill in some of the\u200c gaps.<\/p>\n<p>While the idea of having food\u2063 brought out by a robot might sound off-putting \u200bfor some, Andrus \u200dis using it to keep \u2064herself\u200b and others earning a living.<\/p>\n<p>Plato\u2064 is\u200b simply a sign \u2062of the times.<\/p>\n<h3>Do \u200cyou think restaurants\u2064 should hire \u2063robots as servers?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes<\/li>\n<li>No<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Completing this poll entitles you to The Western Journal\u2063 news updates free \u2064of charge.
