The statute states, \u201cThe legislature finds that the privilege of voting by absentee ballot must be carefully regulated to prevent the potential for fraud or abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the law,\u2062 primary\u2063 methods for applying for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-asks-republicans-to-vote-early-promotes-ballot-harvesting-during-iowa-town-hall\/\" title=\"Trump urges GOP to vote early, endorses ballot harvesting at Iowa town hall.\">absentee \u2062ballot<\/a> are either \u2063by mail or in person at the municipal clerk\u2019s\u2062 office \u2063or through an authorized \u200cthird-party\u2062 representative.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWisconsin law \u2064provides no\u200d option for a\u2063 voter to request an absentee ballot via filling out a\u2064 form on a website, whether that website is\u200c maintained through WEC, a clerk, or anyone else. Nor does\u2062 section 6.86 allow for \u200bpersons to request\u2063 an \u2062absentee ballot through an intermediary. Yet, that is exactly the \u200cfunction\u200c of the online clearinghouse,\u201d Sidney\u2019s brief in \u200dsupport of his \u200dmotion for summary judgment states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Wisconsin\u200c voter\u2064 calls on\u200c the judge \u200cto command WEC to cease the operation of\u2063 the clearinghouse and require clerks to issue absentee ballots only upon receiving a written \u2062request directly from a voter\u200c through authorized methods.<\/p>\n<p>Sidney argues that such a ruling would align with the Wisconsin Supreme \u2063Court\u2019s decision in Teigen \u2062v. WEC in 2022, which declared \u2063the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/swing-state-sued-for-establishing-clearinghouse-online-absentee-ballot-application-process-in-violation-of-state-law\/\" title=\"Swing state sued for illegal online absentee ballot application process.\">absentee ballot\u2064 drop boxes illegal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative commentator Barry Farah\u2064 supports the lawsuit, emphasizing \u2062that Wisconsin law aims to prevent abuse and fraud resulting from increased absentee \u2062ballot availability.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2064 addition to challenging the online absentee ballot application \u2063website, \u200bSidney also calls on the \u200djudge to direct\u200d WEC to create and maintain an accurate voter registration list.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWisconsin law provides that WEC must maintain a \u2018Registration \u2064List\u2019 that contains only \u200c\u2018electors \u2064that are properly\u200c registered \u200dto vote,\u2019\u201d Sidney said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead of maintaining such a list, WEC keeps\u200c a database \u200bthat includes ineligible voters, such\u2064 as deceased individuals, felons, and those\u200c not properly registered. \u2062The database has grown to over \u20637.4 million names, exceeding\u2063 the number of Wisconsin \u2064residents of voting age.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit demands \u200dthat WEC\u2064 migrate properly registered, eligible voters to a new, separate electronic list and provide\u200c this \u2062list exclusively to clerks\u2063 for future elections.
