Dan Goldman\u200d (D-NY) assured reporters on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Instead Biden engaged in \u201ccasual conversation, niceties, the weather, what\u2019s going on\u201d \u2062when \u200bhis son put him on speakerphone for his friends and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">business partners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 20 perfect phone calls.<\/p>\n<p>This falls well short of proving the worst allegations against the president, though it doesn\u2019t exactly refute them either.<\/p>\n<p>It does\u200d suggest that the wall of separation between Hunter \u200dBiden\u2019s\u2064 business dealings and his\u2062 father\u2019s public life is rather less robust than originally advertised \u2014 long before the father\u2019s donors\u200d and commission appointees were purchasing the son\u2019s artwork.<\/p>\n<p>Much like\u2062 the gradual shift from the Hunter Biden laptop going from not real to not a big \u2063deal, the White House goalposts have slowly moved from the Bidens never talking shop to them never \u2062being business partners.<\/p>\n<p>Congressional Democrats are left insisting, perhaps correctly, that Hunter \u2064Biden was simply creating the\u200b illusion of influence derived from\u2063 his father\u2019s \u200cname and power.<\/p>\n<p>But prior to \u2062Devon Archer\u2019s testimony, it was easy\u200d to argue that the worst thing the elder Biden could be accused of was not being forceful enough\u2064 in telling his son to knock it\u200d off. It was also \u200bpossible that Biden was simply not sufficiently aware of what his wayward son was doing.<\/p>\n<p>The phone calls \u200bsuggest that \u2064Biden was at \u2064least somewhat aware of his son\u2019s activities. They also indicate that Biden played a role, unwittingly or not, in helping \u2062his son create the illusion of influence in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Making himself available for these calls, even if only the \u200bweather was\u200d discussed, would \u2062help Hunter Biden make claims of influence\u200d that went \u2063beyond his surname. And\u2064 Hunter Biden, at least, was paid handsomely for it.<\/p>\n<p>House \u200cRepublicans are now going to set out to prove that it wasn\u2019t\u2062 an illusion and that there \u200cwas real access being sold. This could turn into another impeachment, or it could simply leave the same handful of committees pressing for answers.<\/p>\n<p>All this is happening against the backdrop of Hunter Biden\u2019s plea \u200ddeal for tax and gun crimes falling apart, while his\u2064 father is gearing up for a possible rematch with former President Donald \u200bTrump, who\u2064 will surely use these revelations to further rehabilitate his own Biden-Ukraine phone call.<\/p>\n<p>Trump will also use any questions swirling around the Biden family to lessen perceptions\u2062 of the justice and \u2062severity of his\u2064 own legal problems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE\u200c FROM THE WASHINGTON \u2062EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And it is indeed\u2064 difficult\u2062 to\u2062 imagine the Democrats now defending \u200cBiden singing the same tune if the president\u2019s name was Trump.<\/p>\n<p>But Democrats who\u200b once seemed confident there was no there there with the Hunter Biden saga now sound like they are \u2064phoning\u2064 it in.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A president once defended himself from impeachment by citing a &#8220;perfect phone call&#8221; about the Bidens and Ukraine.
