The rule effectively\u2062 prohibits the sale \u200cof\u2063 all new incandescent\u2063 bulbs, encouraging \u200bconsumers to opt for more efficient sources of lighting.<\/p>\n<h3>What the Rule\u2063 Entails<\/h3>\n<p>The Department \u2063of \u200dEnergy announced \u200cthe new \u200blightbulb \u2064efficiency regulations last April. Under these regulations, all bulbs sold by retailers must \u2064produce a minimum of 45 lumens per watt. Certain appliances, like microwaves, are exempt\u2062 from this requirement.<\/p>\n<p>As a\u2063 result, consumers will be limited to purchasing energy-efficient\u2062 options such as \u2063LED bulbs. While LED bulbs have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/department-of-energy-opens-applications-for-8-5-billion-home-energy-efficiency-rebates\/\" title=\"DOE now accepting applications for .5B home energy efficiency rebates.\">higher upfront cost<\/a>, they last approximately 15 to 20 times longer than incandescent bulbs.<\/p>\n<h3>Environmental and Financial Benefits<\/h3>\n<p>The Department\u2062 of \u2062Energy estimates that over the next 30 years, the lightbulb efficiency standard will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/massachusetts-climate-official-on-people-producing-emissions-we-have-to-break-your-will\/\" title=\"Massachusetts Climate Official On People Producing Emissions: \u2018We Have To Break Your Will\u2019\">reduce carbon emissions<\/a>\u2062 by 222 metric tons. This is equivalent to the\u200b emissions generated by 28 million homes in a year.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, consumers are \u200bexpected to save nearly $3 billion per year on their utility bills as a result of this rule.<\/p>\n<h3>Industry Response and Transition \u2062Period<\/h3>\n<p>When the rule was announced in 2022, incandescent bulbs still accounted for around 30% of the retail market.
