No doubt readers, whether\u200c EV owners or \u2064not, imagine the situation as a hassle-filled nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>According to \u2064Scott Evans, editor at Motor Trend \u200cmagazine, the imagined nightmare became\u2063 reality.<\/p>\n<p>In a story published on Friday, \u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motortrend.com\/reviews\/2022-rivian-r1t-yearlong-review-update-10-running-out-of-battery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Evans described<\/a> what unfolded when he and his colleagues deliberately drained the \u2063battery on a 2022 Rivian R1T, the first mass-produced electric pickup truck.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, most\u2062 people\u200d do not drain an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ford-pushes-back-electric-vehicle-target-admits-transition-will-slower-industry-expected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV\u2019s<\/a> battery on purpose. Evans and his colleagues, however, wanted to see what \u200cwould happen.<\/p>\n<p>Things \u2063did not go well.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf \u2062you read nothing else, read this: Don\u2019t do it,\u201d Evans wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Evans team\u2019s odyssey began\u2063 north of Los Angeles in the rural Santa Clarita River Valley. \u200cThey wanted to ensure that\u200d they would run \u2064out \u2063of power in a safe location away from heavy traffic. Of \u2062course, this also meant that the region had fewer\u2062 wall chargers available to charge the\u2064 truck.<\/p>\n<p>On the positive \u200cside, it took a long time to lose power. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/huge-drawback-electric-trucks-revealed-ford-lightning-loses-25-range-full-payload\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">truck<\/a> flashed every imaginable warning light and even preserved enough battery that the\u2064 team \u2063had to coast around a residential area before finally coming to a stop. The team\u2062 also had \u2064a good\u2064 experience with \u2063Rivian Roadside Assistance.<\/p>\n<h3>Do you think electric vehicles are the future?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes<\/li>\n<li>No<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Otherwise, everything \u200dwent wrong.<\/p>\n<p>When the truck\u2019s large battery \u2062died, for \u200cinstance, nothing remained to power its two\u200c smaller 12-volt batteries. This posed \u2063a serious problem\u2064 because the 12-volt batteries\u2064 powered everything else in the vehicle. Thus, when the \u200btow truck arrived 90 \u2063minutes later, the Evans team could not \u2064even release the parking\u2063 brake.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the Evans team discovered that they could not recharge the 12-volt batteries using\u200b a portable charger. With the batteries dead, the charge port \u2064door would not\u200c open. On advice from the \u200buser\u2019s manual, \u200dwhich \u2062they found through the \u2064Rivian phone app, they pulled a \u200cmanual-release cable. The port door still did not\u2063 open.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Louis Cejo, the\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-tow-truck-drivers-could-face-arrest-for-refusing-to-help-clear-canadian-freedom-convoy-trucks\/\" title=\"Report: Tow-Truck Drivers Could Face Arrest For Refusing To Help Clear Canadian Freedom Convoy Trucks\">tow-truck driver<\/a>, arrived \u200cand managed to get the electric truck onto \u2064his flatbed. \u201cCejo said he tows\u2062 at least two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-lordstown-motors-files-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EVs<\/a> a \u200dweek,\u201d Evans wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Cejo towed the electric truck to a charging station 21 miles away. Naturally, \u2062a long line of motorists waited to \u2063charge their own vehicles. By the time \u2063the Evans team reached the front of the line, the wall\u200d charger had\u200c failed.<\/p>\n<p>Now, they had the truck towed to a \u2062Rivian Service Center 62 miles away. After\u2064 charging for more than an hour at the service center, the electric\u200b truck\u2019s battery had 1 percent power.<\/p>\n<p>In short, when\u200c the Evans team \u2064pulled \u2063the\u2063 manual-release cable as instructed by the online\u200d user manual, they damaged the charging port\u2019s\u200d locking mechanism, in \u200cwhich case the \u2062truck would not accept a fast charge.<\/p>\n<p>To fix the problem, technicians had to remove the truck\u2019s\u200b front motors. One \u200ctechnician described it as\u2063 a 22-hour job.<\/p>\n<p>Evans concluded \u200bby praising both\u200d the\u2062 truck\u2019s safety features and the roadside assistance\u2062 service. Still, he reiterated the fundamental point. \u201cLike we said right \u200dup \u200dfront, \u2064don\u2019t do \u2062this,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The entire ordeal reminds readers that electric vehicles, whatever \u200dtheir future, \u2064have not yet arrived.<\/p>\n<p>If\u200d consumers could simply weigh the vehicles\u2019 net benefits as they do with other products, then the market would decide the product\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, fear-mongering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hillary-clinton-absolutely-humiliates-blames-maga-republicans-hot-july\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">climate-change<\/a> fanatics have already determined \u200bthat EVs should \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/journalists-go-through-electric-truck-nightmare-when-they-completely-run-out-of-battery\/\" title=\"Journalists' Electric Truck Nightmare: Battery Completely Depleted\">replace traditional \u200dgasoline-powered vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the EV\u2019s place in the climate lunatics\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lefts-electric-vehicle-hopes-dreams-run-wall-evs-piling-lots-no-buyers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agenda<\/a> \u2063 reinforces hesitancy.
